Oh we have money- we just dont have top line money. We had the money to pay Murphy as you said- but now in the portal- his price goes up 40-50%. That's what I mean about being able to put together a Final Four level roster. We just cant. We would have to Moneyball it- which is possible as well. Get a couple of expensive toys and surround them with solid vets. Thats what we tried to do this past season. But our vets couldnt knock down open shots.

Lets talk a little more about the Quincy Ballard commit. 6'11 250 pound commit out of Wichita State. Averaged 10 ppg 9 rpg on 75% shooting. Pretty nice pickup!! Everyone has been wanting a rim protecting big... here you go

great pick-up. Is more of the toughness we need in the paint.

This is a MASSIVE upgrade over Nwoko.

Ahhh damn losing Murphy sucks now because Hubbard, Murphy, and Ballard are 3 you could really focus this roster around.

Yeah- having a dude on the block is great but that guy also needs to hit a 15 footer and defend in space

If you want to matter, you have to figure out how to be competitive in football or men's basketball (or some combo of both). I'm not talking about winning it all, I just mean be good with some occasional really good years.
We could win the natty in baseball, golf, tennis and soccer every year and it will not matter if we want to be relevant. That's just real talk even though it's a hard one to solve.
I don't give a good crap about what "sports fans" (assuming you mean nationwide) care about. Wisconsin and Penn State and Ohio State and Michigan are going to care more about football and basketball because baseball isn't a cold weather sport and the have 100,000 plus seat Football Stadiums and they have played football at the top of the mountain. But they also love Ice Hockey and probably give more than 2 shits about Curling. So what. What I do know is Mississippi State has played for 2 National Championships in Baseball and on two really freaky seasons got a whiff of a Basketball Final 4 rarified air, and found lightening in a bottle for 9 weeks in Football until they do what they always do against Aladamnbama and lost 3 of the last 4 games they played. The BEST DAMN FOOTBALL TEAM we ever had, lost to our hated rivals!
The pinnacle of College Football is now the CFP and the only year State came close in any of our lifetimes only 4 teams qualified and the team that took our place at #4. AFTER we lost to Ole Miss, won the whole thing that first 4 Team Year!
The pinnacle of College Basketball ( some here think it's just qualifying for the 68 team tourney) is the Final 4 and State made it 1 time in history as a 5 seed!
The pinnacle of Women's Basketball is the same and not only did State make it to the Final 4, they made it to the Final 2!
The pinnacle of College Baseball is Omaha and I believe State has made it 9 or 10 times with Two 3rd place finishes, one 2nd place finish, and ONE 1st place finish!
So crow about how the country doesn't care about College Baseball all you want! It's the closest thing State will EVER COME TO WINNING a sport that is also played at the professional level!

A 15 footer is a terrible shot and doesn?t need to be shot that often.

I?ll take the rim protector over Murphy.
That allows us to be way more aggressive guarding the 3.
Love to have both , but I?m good if not.

Need a scorer. I like both of our pick ups, but neither scored as much as I'd like to see coming from a lower conference.

Right now we have 2 starters: Hubbard and Ballard. We have 2 nice reserves in Jones and McGhee. Need to land legitimate pieces at the 2-3-4 and 1 front court rotation piece. So focus money on Hubbard and 3 guys. I've been telling yall for 10 years that depth is overrated.

It sure worked out well for Oregon State only caring about baseball. That will be us in the next realignment if we don?t start performing in the two sports that matter ugh so many of our fans don?t get it

Talented Scorer - Hubbard
True Point Guard -
Backup Point Guard - Warren?
3&D Wing #1 -
3&D Wing #2 -
3&D Wing #3 - McGhee
3&D Wing #4 - Jones
Post Scorer who is a bucket -
7 footer who doesn't have a major "weakness" - Ballard
Backup defensive specialist big - One of the "mississippi gatorade player of the year" kids?
Still work to be done. Like others said, we need scorers. Paying for Murphy would be good. Murphy + true point + 3&D wing is the best case scenario for our starting lineup.
