TV ratings for basketball tournament at 32 year high
If you want to make dear ole State realavant to the average person in this country you do it through football or men's basketball. Period. That's it. That's the only way to matter in the sports landscape.
Does our leadership understand that? I'm not saying yes or now, but I wonder.

Everybody understands that. But we have limited resources and football will be a fight to stay above water. Doing all we can there. We have dumped resources into basketball and have made the Tourney 3 straight years.
Walk like the King or walk like you don't care who the King is

I agree football is hard, if we can stay bowl eligible (literally 6 wins) in this climate with an occasional 8 win season, I'm happy. Basketball is our chance to make an impact at the national level for sure.

So in order to survive, our sporting events will have to be forever pitched as social entertainment, because we'll never win $hit. Forgive me, but is there a long term proposition here.

Does Keenum or Selmon have a long term proposition? I honestly have no idea. I just get this feeling we are winging it right now, while everyone else around us as a solid plan in place for both football and basketball.

No we have a plan like everyone else. The problem is that we started 18-24 months behind everyone else because Cohen was completely unprepared for NIL. Then he decided to give away baseballs and the guy he put in charge of it had a mental breakdown. So right there we were 12 months behind everyone else. Add in Cohen scuffling for another 6-12 months and not embracing it and we then found ourselves in the position we were when Charlie started the BI. He busted his ass to bring us up to only a year behind everyone else and presently we're probably 6-12 months behind everyone else.
Cohen legit was just going to fund baseball. He did not care about any other sport.

NIL and transfer portal will take its toll on basketball and I think you are seeing that now.
This year no 11 see or higher made it to sweet 16 since 2007. Last year was great but you are starting to see impact of transfer.
March madness is a tryout for a good player from a small school auditioning for a transfer to a big program - Elijah Martin at UF is one example. This is why you don't have as many upsets I think going forward. Watch and see.
Competition across the board is on decline due to only those with money will have the programs and teams. Tenn is hitting on all cylinders as are others because they have sold their soul to win.
Student athletes are no more. Charles Barkley went off on this the other day on March madness broadcast saying the most important thing is getting the education and schools should get back to focus on that. It will not happen because genie is out but he is right. Why did Barkley say that? Mostly because he sees many anthletes getting out and they didn't learn anything or get a degree and most are back on skid row. This not only hurts the individual but society as a whole too.

I wouldn't call selling a baseball for 800 dollars giving it away.

We still need to focus on baseball as well as basketball and football.
Being a national power in baseball is better than being a national power in nothing.
We have too much in fighting to figure football out.
College baseball is one of the fastest growing sports and has more exposure than ever before because of social media. We would be fools to de-emphasize it.

Everyone here is going to try to wing it just enough to get a job at a recognized brand. That seems to be the goal. Unless you're fine with MSU born and bred types like Dr. Keenum.
