My question, too. Dotson is interesting as a closer. Throws high 80s/low 90s

Definitely, where is Gavin Black and I would add "where is" Mannell?
Mannell was supposed to be really good recruit with draft risk.

Better start tampering, get him to Starkville. This is a Canadian kid, so he can't get NIL. So, just a scholarship is enough.
But maybe MSU hitting just sucks and everybody is going to look like Greg Maddux from here out.

Dotson closing doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. I like him but as a mid week starter or long relief. He's not a SEC closer.

1. We won.
2. Pico is going to give us a lot of chances to win on Friday nights. He is fearless with that slider at any point in the count.
3. Liking Buckner's plate approach in the leadoff slot; can't wait to see more of what he can do.
4. Wasn't sure about that Sullivan 'Stache' but if he continues to deliver clutch gappers, we'll tip our caps.

The slider is definitely filthy! Just hope he keeps it up and it translates to SEC batters

Pico de Gallo is solid. Glad he added some velo. He will battle on Friday's and give us 5-6 most nights.
Really surprised with the Dotson call today. Dotson is not going to be the Closer. I get putting guys in pressure sits early on to see how they respond- but Dotson aint that guy

Ugly. How many errors have we made at 2b? I've seen 8 year olds field cleaner.
-
Lemonis said post game that they went with Dotson because their lineup hits homers and Dotson could get above their bats.

Sorry I don’t have any stats, but I still say we are NOT a cold weather team. If the temp is below 65 we seem to play like crap. That has been my observation over the past 50+ years. Pray for warm weather.

This is an example of our staff using data and analytics and the pitching lab to make decisions. I get that Dotson isn't going to be the closer but the reality is as far as today is concerned he did the job even though he had a couple of walks. It's definitely a different way to manage than in the past when coaches would just put in their closer no matter what.
That said, we're in our second weekend of play and there are some guys like Black and Mannell that need to get work in.
And as far as hitting I think that is a lot of what hurt us today. Apparently we didn't have much data on their freshman pitcher that they threw today so we decided to try to be patient and work him out of the game and beat their bullpen. Almost blew up in our face because he was shoving strikes. I wouldn't be surprised if we hit much better the next two games. Ross Highfill also missed a sign apparently and that killed a rally with a two out bunt. Who knows what happens if we let him swing away there?
Fact of the matter is we pitched very well and when it counted we got the timely hit to win the game with a double in the gap.

Eh. Kind of want to see how the rest of his season plays out once the book is out on him. Definitely in the follow for now category.

Canadians cannot get NIL?

I don't think any internationals can get NIL because they are on student visas. These visas don't allow employment unless it's part of their curriculum.
But who knows, there are no rules anymore.

There's really only two ways to view yesterday's game.
1. The Pessimistic view: It coupled with Tuesday show systemic hitting issues and are foreshadowing a bad hitting year. In 3 months it will be obvious like other games we screwed up prior.
2. The optimistic view: We got a tuneup dealing with high leverage situations. Several guys rose to the moment when we had to have it. We tested a guy out who wasn't a closer and got him great confidence building experience. If we end up being a good team, this will have been a positive experience building for us.
Whether we're good or bad, this game was more conducive to confidence building and preparing us for what's ahead than a 17-3 7 inning throttling. It's a fans choice to be happy or worried. When we win - I choose to be happy and optimistic today rather than worry about doom and gloom when I won't be proven right for two months.
It is as simple as that. Do people prefer to be happy now or be right two months from now. And it's always astonishing how many more prefer the second.

Well our ?Friday night SEC starter? only throws 91-92 so far so?.he better start getting to this 94-96 I keep hearing about before league play or he?s getting crushed.

State coaches see this same type of kid all the time and ignore them. Then they get it shoved up their ass by one of them and now they start wanting to talk about his IVB and Ethan Small. SMH. Good for that kid. Bet he?s not top 100 PG grade either Lemo

It's february and the weather is cold as shit.
College baseball season really ideally should start and end 2 months later. Push the championship into August in the sports dead period. But that just doesn't align with School calendars.
