I would venture a guess that Mitchell and Miles are the only two that are going to be fighting for starting spots. Clinton and Lafeau COULD get to that level. They both have the bodies to play their positions.
I keep hearing that we brought in these juco guys and that they aren't guaranteed a roster spot for next fall. I'm not sure what I think about that, because I talked to a Juco coach at PRCC and he told me that he has never heard of that because most of the JUCO guys we signed had other options, sure they may have been G5 options, but they were solid options.
I just don't see us cutting Juco kids, especially considering the numbers on our roster currently.
I guess we will find out soon enough, but I just don't think there will be some mass culling of the roster in April of Juco kids we signed in December/February.

Cut is probably a strong word. They won't technically be cut. They'll just be practice squad. I guess I should've clarified roster spot on the gameday roster. Like they'll still be with the team but will be practice squad. So cut from the gameday roster is probably a better word. Basically, we're bringing them in and if they can't hack it we'll tell them they can be on the practice squad or they can transfer. We took 11, I just looked, and I would venture a guess that 3-5 will be in the portal after spring ball

Well not going to speculate on specific players, whether they are JUCO or transfers, but several are going to be on the collective scholarship with an opportunity to make the team and make some money as well. That's the edge over the G5 offers.

Why would we waste Collective dollars on a fringe 85 player, when we could just keep him on scholarship and use the collective money towards an impact player in the portal. I swear, I'll never understand this new NIL world.

The roster still has a hard 85 scholarship limit but walkons will be no more soon and rosters will have 105 players potentially. So we need to go ahead and start getting ahead of the collective scholarships.

Because our scout team players had no business being on the field playing against our 1s. There is a reason Lebby let Creed continue to practice..to give our 1s a more live look during the week. We had to start going 1 vs 2 during the week the back half of the year to get a more meaningful look to what we?d see on Saturdays. No wonder we started seeing some better production the last few weeks outside of Arkansas.
Leb even told people during NSD press conference, he brought a lot of the guys on to see if they?d develop and make into a meaningful player. Think of this as the NFL?you have guys who are practice squad players developing and active roster guys.

This predicament we are in tells you everything you need to know about Leach and Arnept?s ability to build and maintain a roster. Yet we have a bunch of loudmouth clowns on this and other boards that want to lay the blame solely at the feet of Lebby and Selmon. It?s ludicrous. And it shows that this fanbase can be so damn dumb.

No doubt. We should've hired Sark over Leach 100 times out of 100. Mike's staff tanked this program.
"We will have no problem in handling Kentucky."-Turfdawg67. MSU suffered a 27-17 defeat in 2022 with 225 yards in total offense.

Now that's a true statement. Mike did not tank the program. Mike's staff did. And ultimately the buck does stop with the HC of the program. Emerick and Dudek killed us as a program. He allowed them to be head of recruiting because Mike hated recruiting. He relied on them to go find him players and he'd coach them up. And to his credit, he got everything possible out of guys. I mean look at how many guys regressed after Leach. Mike had complete buy in. And you don't see that a lot.
From a 10 ft view, Leach was a good hire. From a 10,000 ft view, you hire Steve Sarkisian EVERY TIME. Even if it's only for two years.

I hated leach's style, but he was an excellent HC. He's so good in fact that he can put a respectable team on the field that has no business being respectable. The problem when he leaves is there's basically no one else that do it.

BINGO. We all said that no one ran Leach's system like Leach. I think we all thought we were talking about just the offense. It was the way he ran the program. I think we all underestimated how much he got out of guys that had no business playing the SEC. I mean Makai Polk goes from like 16 catches at Cal to over 100 under Leach. Scooby Ford was a walk on who never sniffed the field, until Leach. He catches 19/247 in 2021. He tried to transfer and never played a snap again. And that's just two examples. We have tons. Will Rogers is another one.

If you are going to transition from Leach as coach the one thing I wouldn't do is run something the polar opposite of what he was running.
We could have hired someone like Ben Arbuckle and the transition would have been much easier.
Heck- we could have hires Tyson Helton, kept the Air Raid, had Will Friend, Chad Bumphis, and Jamar Chaney and everyone would have been happy.

This is a new thing with the change in scholarship disbursement and expected roster changes

Virginia Tech. Too slow to be a WR. Probably more of a TE.

He was heavily rumored to us back in August but we kind of cooled on him more than he cooled on us after that.

I'm guessing we officially dropped Ferzell Shephard.

We didn't drop him, he couldn't qualify. He's going JUCO. We'll monitor for a a couple of years to see if he can get the grades up.

Ah 10-4. I just saw the South Florida visit and didn't know if they were signing him.
