Big stat for game vs Memphis...
Memphis is 3rd in the nation in 3 point FG percentage. We are 318th in 3 point percentage defense.

I’m excited about this game. Quality opponent, on the road. This is a challenge and I love the competition. Let’s go win this thing.

This will be a tough matchup but looking forward to it.
I expect our 3pt% defense to improve from where it is now. We were 10th best in the country last year. This year?s stats so far may be a combination of us being slightly worse defensively and having some bad luck?

keep us updated please. we all watching football today

I think we all got caught up how well we played in this game, but hoops laid out a huge weakness of ours early. We shoulda saw this coming more than we did.

Wow, I don't remember this post. It will be interesting to see how we try and correct this for next year.

We were 6th in sec in 3% def 2 years ago and 1st last year, so I hope it's just a blip.

That is true about last year's D but then Michigan State proceeded to hit 10-23 3 pointers vs us in the tourney game and shot 50% from the field.
My fear is that the skill level of SEC teams has increased significantly even from last season meanwhile Jans has not adjusted his defensive strategy.
Even this year, we have looked like the same suffocating D when we have played less skilled teams like South Carolina and UGA. Vandy missed a ton of wide open shots. Then we have the 2 nice wins over Ole Miss.
Long story short, Jans has not adjusted.

May I add that it doesn?t help, when we are also missing three?s in abundance, and our opponent (not just one player, but a couple 2 boot) always seem to make us pay.

Defensively, you're right. I do wonder how easy it is to adjust your whole philosophy during the season.
Offensively though, we've become a pretty damn good team. Gotta give some credit to Jans for that.

We've been a bad 3 point defense team all year. No blip, no bad luck, just flat out poor.
"We will have no problem in handling Kentucky."-Turfdawg67. MSU suffered a 27-17 defeat in 2022 with 225 yards in total offense.

Yep. And maybe it's that we focused so much on defense Jans' first year because we had to. We were dead last in 3 pt shooting and scored about 65 ppg. Last year we scored 74/game and this year are at almost 80/game. So it seems like while the offense has taken a step forward, defensively we've taken multiple steps back.

If you're referencing my "blip", I was clearly talking about this season being an aberration bc of being very good the previous two seasons

Jans is going to help baseline and double the post. That's going to leave shooters open if teams reverse the ball.
The last two years we've had the length and tenacity of DJ Jeffries to close the space for shooters on the perimeter.
