2-10 was one of our worse ever season
But I keep reading the same ole same on ED, some post the same thing on every post. I'm gonna say this, there are many reasons for our failure the last two years, things can or might change soon. Time to stop all the negative talk and move on to basketball, it's a little early to "really" know if Lebby will make it as our HC or not. Most folks who become a HC, Manager or Top Dog for any job who has never been in that situation have a learning period. Heck Nick Saban didn't become one of the greatest for a while, and yes, it's easier to win at Lsu and Bama in football. I guess my point is time to move on and at least let's see what will happen instead of "I told everyone".
I think we will recover, I hope it's next year, but it may take a couple years, that is a fact.
I'm not pointing figures at anyone personally, I have been gone hunting last few days, it helps to not be stuck in "reverse all the time"!

And Base would know 1st hand being at state during some of the worst years ever.

I did see us beat Archie Manning, LOL, and I also saw us get beat like 48-0 also. I think the 60's were the worse decade ever thou.

I think the hardest thing for many State fans to come to terms with is that they thought we were done with being an SEC laughing stock. Everything that has happened since November 24, 2017 has proven that we aren't.
All of the old challenges facing MSU are still there - size, location, SEC Biases/history, OM Biases/history, leadership, lack of unity, lack of funding (on all levels as a University), and lack of vision are all still real and make MSU one of the toughest places in the country to create a successful college football program. And I'm not wanting to frame this from the "poor ole Mississippi State" perspective. It's not an excuse for 2-10 - it's an understanding that we face challenges that other SEC programs don't face and to succeed we have to have a whole lot working for us to overcome these challenges. We have to have the RIGHT leadership, the RIGHT coach, and UNIFIED support. And even THEN, it is an uphill battle. We saw that with Jackie and Dan throughout their tenures.
"After dealing with Ole Miss for over a year," he said, "I've learned to expect their leadership to do and say things that the leadership at other Division I schools would never consider doing and to justify their actions by reminding themselves that "We're Ole Miss.""

This was Shira/Croom bad and I have been attending games in person since 1963 as an eight year old, family has had season tickets for 56 consecutive years & late Dad was in on Bulldog Club since day one. Never thought we would be this bad again in my lifetime and we are still making the same bad decisions off and off the field that we made decades ago and learning little from mistakes. Oh, well, "Wait "Til Next Year" & my family will still be there. Hail State and Do Better at ALL Levels!

Gonna have to pull out my old 1978 Lets Win Something Today Shirt for next year.

Just a reminder how year two makes a big difference. Back when freshman didn't play varsity, we had a QB named Tommy Pharr who started his sophomore year. He wasn't much of a passer his first year but a good athlete who could run. But his second year he worked his tail off during the off season and the next year he led the nation in passing. It was amazing watching his growth from one year to the next. So, you folks thinking MVB might not be the answer could be surprised how much he may or will improve.
Btw, Tommy Pharr was maybe 5'10", what a great QB he turned into, he stayed hurt mostly his senior. He was one of my favorite QB to play at Msu.
Also parabrave, I signed a football scholarship way back when at Msu, things didn't work out (back then you had to have 17 on ACT, I made 16 and would have to sit out a year and pay my way to school, didn't have the funds to do this) and I had to decide where to go my freshman year. Coach Shira called me and said he talked to Usm and they would sign me, I'm like no way Coach but thanks. I had some friends who were playing at Delta State, Coach Horace McCool calls me says "come on up to Cleveland, I told him I'd me there tomorrow. I called him back later that evening and told him I wasn't coming and i was going to Co-Lin, biggest mistake I made at an early age. LOL, oh it's more to my journey, and a few folks on ED know my story.

Didn't he also have David Smith and Sammie Milner in his last years? If people would go back and see the stats that Pharr and Joe Reed put up they would ask why did State Suck so bad then,.

It's a good thing we're running it back!*

Yes, two of the best wideouts ever. David smith had a ton of catches like around 80 or more. So did Milner. Joe Reed transferred in from I think Texas Tech. He was very good and I think got drafted.

A few notes from an OLD DOG. David Smith, saw him catch a td in the south end zone against Richmond Spiders. Horrible years, Croom, especially the win in the Memphis bowl was one of the worst win games I’ve ever seen. Felker had plenty of horrible games esp the Mud Bowl loss to om when he continued to run into the pond. God Bless JWS, but his last year esp the loss to the worst Bama team I’ve ever seen and ELI in his last game in the rain was terrible. All that being said the Egg Bowl was a very good effort IMO, the defense made some stout stops against the run except the long run. Having a 1/10 on the one, you have to score early. You don’t run a dive against the #1 run defense, have to do something to the side or over the top. Offensively it was GREAT to see some long passes and great receiver hands. I know everyone wants to hang people, but I did see glimpses of promise. I have no answers, but I have seen worse..... NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS.....GO DOGS

I agree, never give up being True Maroon. Nothing can be as bad playing Houston back in the late 60’s at the Astrodome and getting beat 74-0. Next year they came to StarkVegas and we upset them, so there is hope!

It's a little bit po ole state though
JWS didn't make excuses. He talked about our location as a positive bc you can find all the players you need within a 5 hour radius.
MS produces talent. He talked about how MSU was a great choice for a black athlete due to campus demographics and being different than the university of Mississippi.
All those other things you mentioned are a problem anywhere if you don't have the right leadership in place. Just look at Florida State or Auburn currently. I mean look at A&M. How do they go 8-4 every year.

A lot of those are positives to this day. But the above board money makes it less important now. Was better when under the table.

We can't outspend Texas but we have enough money to field a competitive team.
Sometimes, we make this too complicated. Get a dual threat QB, and invest in the trenches. Just look at South Carolina this year.

we have the QB on the way. just need the trench guys.........

This needs to come to fruition. MVB did the best he could under the circumstances but he wasn't a dual threat QB this year. Now, he may be one, but with no depth he just wasn't able to cut loose on QB power or designed runs. If Taylor makes it to Starkville, and we bring in another as " health insurance", maybe Spring competition will be better.
