Until we are matching what they do for the university nobody should bitch about how the big boosters spend their money with our programs.
Unfortunately, I don't see a current path for us to bring in more NIL from out of state as we are terrible at the social media game and other than an email once a month we don't get the word out on anything.
I get more OM NIL propaganda on social media and regular mail than I do State and I graduated from State.
Well that's what I'm saying. I give myself but I know it's not enough to offset some of the old money we have, I mean the Seal family still has a TON of influence. I know I can't match what they have given, which is in well into 9 figures. And I do agree that we do a terrible job with young alumni and out of state. That is part of the reason I'm trying to start this venture. It's a way to bring in more people, but also bring in more money.

Heck, Dak just got the biggest pay day in NFL history. Hopefully we're talking to him. There are ways to get it done.
ETA: At the very least, we could be making commercials or other media pushing NIL using guys/gals like this. Dak, Hardy, Chris Jones, Papelbon, Will Clark, Fletcher Cox, etc. Then, whatever we pay them to make the media, they donate straight to NIL.
Dak has made a commercial with the BI. It was put on the jumbotron prior to every game in 2021. He also give to the BI. Hardy donated all merch sales from his concert to the BI. He also gives to the BI. Jeff Simmons gives to the BI. Pabelbon does as well.

Well I mean where do you want that broadcasted? Hell half the people don't watch cable anymore so buying ad time is useless. I mean does Dak need to make a post every week on Twitter and Instagram that he donates to the BI and you should too? I don't know what some people want with this stuff. I mean why do we need to promote that they donate? Can you not donate if they don't? Are we thinking that if they donate then the common people don't have to? That's the exact reason OM has passed us in the NIL game. They do not give a crap if AJ Brown or Eli Manning or Brett Young or whoever else is donating to their Collective...they just do it.

Digital ads can be targeted effectivtly to State fans on a variety of platforms and if the BI is going to grow I think they need to get serious about hiring a marketing agency or a staff person. The messaging is the hard part (as we have discussed ad nausum!)

Can't fire Selmon or Lebby. It's way too early to fire either of those guys and we have had so much turnover over the last 5 or 6 years that we would dig ourselves into a deeper hole trying to replace guys. And let's be fair, as much as it sucks right now, we have to give them both a fair shot.

The answer is one post. 17 no it?s not time to fire him, he hasn?t done shit to be fired for.
Two shitty games by a new head football coach and some idiots want to fire the AD.
There?s no way some of the people on this board have ever led anyone or had the responsibility of hiring or firing.

Ok. This sums it up quite efficiently and succinctly. No one is getting fired. This comical shit is beyond old. Damn people. Just damn.

Thank you! I understand the frustration because I'm frustrated too but how are we already talking about firing Selmon? He's barely had time to do much of anything. And lets be honest, its not like we are a Powerhouse program that can fire coaches and AD's every other year and expect to become a great program. These things take time, they both deserve time.

1. He was brought in because he had fundraising experience. Has our fundraising improved at all? I've not heard of anything nor have I seen any evidence.
2. The most important thing in college sports is NIL and ours is average (at best).
3. Football, the sport he played, is an unmitigated disaster under his watch, there's no arguing that.
4. Baseball is a mess, although admittingly I don't pay much attention to that.
5. Basketball looks to be on very solid footing, so kudus there.
6. Maybe some of the other sports have improved slightly? I'm honestly not sure.
I'm open to arguments, but what I saw (in person) Saturday night was such a mess I feel like leadership should be questioned. From the big bell falling over, to low energy, bored fans leaving at halftime, to players that don't seem to care at all. The whole thing was just embarrassing.
I think we have to give him 5 full years. Of course he'll likely be gone on his own accord by then anyway.

Sorry Zach, no offense intended.

He's got a huge communication and marketing problem. Fix that, and I don't think you'd see complaints except for his Mullen tendencies.

That's the issue. I follow this stuff as close as you can. I'm in the BI, I'm no longer in the BC (chose NIL instead) but I was in it for years. I have a daughter at State and follow all social media accounts, including his (Zach's). And with all that said I don't really know what the athletic department is doing, what their goals are, fundraising efforts, etc. So all I have left to judge is what I see with my own eyes on the field and it's a mess. I do think he's probably a smart guy and if it's true he's removed a lot of dead wood I suppose that's good but again, that's just message board rumors. If he has postive things to brag about then do it! Let us know and we are the type fans that will get behind you. But I just feel like we're all wondering aimlessly at this point.

Not sure I agree with this.....

I think Selmon thought he was walking into a fully functional SEC level athletic department and when he discovered that was not the case he could announce "This place is a disaster and will take some time to fix" or just keep quiet, which is what he did. Hopefully he has a vision for correcting and growing the department and he can share that soon.

With today's NIL announcement, the answer is no.
