Four Things I would like to see MSU football change
This is fan service and I know it doesn't mean we'll go 12-0 or "change" anything as far as results on the field. But as a fan of a team I think it is important to have some pride in the product that you are supporting and I think that's where MSU lacks sometimes.
1. Bring back the interlocking helmet and the 1998 uniforms. They are our best uniform. They say "Mississippi State football" to most of our fans and they're unique to us. In some ways it kind of reminds me of our 1985 MSU baseball uniforms with the lettering being unique in that you don't see it a lot on anyone else's uniforms. The interlocking MSU with the black outlines looks good as well and is also very unique. And there is some versatility with it. There is already a white helmet version although I would like to see an all white helmet without the stripe and a white facemask and just the interlocking MSU on the side which could be a variation. The uniform works with gray/silver pants and perhaps a gray/silver facemask, an all black variation, an all silver variation, and maybe even an Egg Bowl variation with gold helmets and the interlocking MSU on the helmet. Let's be clear though- the maroon helmet, maroon jersey, and white pants are the best look. And yes, I do understand that MSU just switched to the State script and it's going to have to run its course until any other changes happen. Hopefully we see the interlocking MSU come back soon fulltime nonetheless.
2. Declare MSU the 1940 National Champions. We didn't win the SEC that year, that went to Tennessee which went 5-0 in SEC play to MSU's 4-0-1. Tennessee went 10-1 that year to MSU's 10-0-1. MSU that year won as many games as 10-0 Boston College and won more games than undefeated Stanford and Minnesota that year. MSU has as much claim to a NC this year as any of the other schools. By the way- in case you're curious Tennessee was declared the NC that season.
3. MSU should recognize the on the field results of games forfeited from 1975 and 1976. Everyone else gets to "vacate" games and yet MSU counts these as losses for MSU. It hurts Bob Tyler's legacy and more importantly it hurts MSU as a whole by giving away two free wins to some of our common opponents despite beating them on the field.
4. MSU needs to update their content production for football. I really enjoyed Relentless back in the day. I would love to see that comeback and properly promoted by MSU- ads on gameday at the stadium, ads on Facebook, twitter, and etc. Have a free access version on Youtube and then maybe some behind the scenes content that you have to pay for. Anything to promote the football program is good content IMO. I'd also like to see MSU have highlights of old MSU football players like Eric Moulds, JJ Johnson, Johnie Cooks, and even as far back as Jackie Parker. In 2020 MSU put out some old home videos that people used to buy for the 1991, 1998, 1999, and 2000 football seasons. Put more of those up! Except for 1988 and 2003 for obvious reasons. Although I'd probably watch those too.

I agree with all of these.

Yep, Yep, Yep, aaaaand yep

I’m ok with the uniform thing. It doesn’t define MSU football for anyone under 30 but it is a good logo.
As for the rest, MSU football history is garbage so what good does is do celebrating history from 80+ years ago when much of the rest of it is so forgettable? We tell scUM fans all the time to stop living in the past. So why don’t we do the same thing and work on building MSU football TODAY. We have started at square one by implementing a real offense. Let’s see if it works without too many growing pains and then build the damn roster with some talent.

Uniforms do define the program in terms of being recognizable. See Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, etc. I guarantee you as I named off those teams you knew immediately in your mind what each of them looked like.
We're not celebrating Tech and 10. We're celebrating the only MSU team that went undefeated and recognizing a MSU team that went 9-2 in 1976. Being able to show people that you can succeed is part of attracting people help you succeed. Even if that success was a long time ago. It's not living in the past. It's using the past to help us move forward.

I don't get the obsession with the "interlocking MSU". I was a young adult then. I Went to just about every home game and many many road games. "Interlocking MSU does NOT say "Mississippi State football" to me. .
What "interlocking MSU" reminds me of, is a hug $%^& sandwich. 01-03 is the worst three season stretch of MSU football since the late 60s. 8 damn wins in 3 years and a coach forced to retire because of probation and frankly he was done anyways after he didn't get the Bama job in 00. THAT is what "interlocking MSU" reminds me of. Then State brings it back for a game last year and gets beat by Kentucky.
Relentless.......let's see what era of Mississippi State football was that???? hmmm???? Only the greatest to date.

Any mention of the interlocking is like a bat signal to this guy

agree with everything but the Interlocking logo..... was around then and do not like it but thats me..........

1996-2000 was a much better stretch than any that Mullen had. You're talking about winning a SEC West Championship, beating either the SEC West and/or SEC East Champ FOUR times in that era. And two of the times we didn't beat the champ it's because WE were the champ or a year where we went 10-2.
Dan Mullen to me if we're being honest had 2010 and 2014 and that's about it. Those were the only seasons that compared to 1998 and 1999 during his entire tenure. And since this is a uniform debate we had completely different uniforms in 2010 and 2014.

This is the identity of Mississippi State football at this time

Maybe if &tate is worth a damn and puts plays in the nfl. &tate will be the new identity.

Love everything about this post. Strongly agree that we should celebrate the great teams of our past. Helps it be know that success can be achieved in Starkville.

1) tell the IHL to shove their love for all things ole miss (flagship) up their ass and start a Law School. If MC and now JSU can have one. So can we.
2)Tell the IHL to shove MUW up their ass and if they don't merge them with MSU so we have a nursing school, State will no longer co-op fund any programs at the W like they currently do and let that waste or space dry up.
3)Tell the IHL that the Medical Center needs to become a joint venture so that undergrads from MSU who attend UMMC get credits for a Medical Degree from MSU/UMMC.
4) Or move MSU to Rankin County. That would work as well. 😳😳😳
-
Oh and Close in the South EndZone and Chairback the entire west side lower bowl, cutting capacity to about 55,000. If fans have to pay premium seat licensing, they need to have premium seating!

A lot has to do with who you elect. A lot of these are ole miss grads and they put a lot of money, government, in Oxford and back them.

Move the staff seats as well. If they aren't paying like the rest then they don't need premium seats

I like it! 1-3 specifically.

Just fyi. The Faculty and Staff section is only section 21. It is sold out. No availability.
Section 20 requires a donation of $200 per seat and has approximately 150 seats unsold. Sections 19 and 22 require a $150 donation and have approximately 150 seats unsold per section.
Section 18 and 23 requires a donation of $100 per seat. 23 has few remaining. (Because it is next to the visitors section and visitors have bought those). 18 has approximately 150 available.
So, where would you move the faculty and staff and who would buy their seats? Very few is who.
Section 4, 3 and 5 still have seats unsold. Other than the faculty/staff and premium seating, every section has unsold seats as of today.

Agreed on the 55k but not on the south endzone. The west side needs to be dropped to the ground and rebuilt like Memphis or Oregon State, with 30 rows of bench seating and the rest premium, luxury seating.
