What are our chances for those 2?

You will probably never see a Skenes type player again in college

No clue on either. Kash is a huge draft risk so teams will probably lay low on him until they see where he's drafted. The Root kid was heavily rumored to LSU but still hasn't signed anywhere so no clue with him.

Skenes was a huge anomaly. The only reason he was at Air Force was because his Senior year got cancelled due to COVID and they reduced the draft to 5 rounds - otherwise he's likely drafted.

"Beetlejuice"
This nickname basically makes itself.

Well we better give him a nickname because I sure as hell am not counting on our fanbase being able to spell it. They couldn't even spell Khal STEPHEN's name correctly. Half of them got him and Nolan STEVENS mixed up.

I think you will see many, many players. Guys that grow and develop in smaller programs. Some kids just bloom at a different rate.
In today's portal world:
(1) Jacob DeGrom would have transferred from Stetson, probably to USM or something
(2) Chris Sale would have transferred from Florida Gulf Coast as a Soph. to an array of options, directly to the SEC
(3) Stephen Strasburg would never have played 3 seasons for San Diego State, directly to the SEC
(4) Matt Scherzer would have left the cozy aluminum palace of Mizzou to the 1st class venues of the SEC
Just to name a few

Purdue?s Freshman of the Year Luke Gaffney has entered the Transfer Portal. Gaffney, 6-2, 215, had a monster season, hitting .359 with 13 HRs, 64 RBIs and also had a 1.095 OPS.

Some big schools will be on him which means we won't get him

He's the type of player we need though. .359 avg, .449 OBP, .646 slg. AND A 1B.

I don't disagree, but if the Tennessee, Arkansas, LSU's of the world want him, we're screwed.

The good news for us is that LSU has already taken a 1B in the portal with the Indiana State kid. They'd be a team I'd definitely worry about. We also have Khal in our corner who might be able to get some people in his ear about improving your draft stock going from Purdue to State.

Mechanical Engineering major, my type of player. An instant starting 1B also.
If he were a Fantasy Sports major from Tulane, he's an Ole Miss transfer.
MSU should be able to attract BSME kids from Purdue.

We could use him at catcher potentially too. Seems like a per perfect fit for us on paper.

Auburn signed ECUs Bristol Carter. They also got the Samford catcher. If even a diseased and miserable program can attract good players, gives me high hopes.

St.Louis outfielder Pat Clohisy has entered the Transfer Portal. Clohisy had a monster 2024 campaign with a .378 AVG, 15 doubles, 5 triples, 7 HRs, 44 RBIs. First Team All-A10.
