    Baseball Recruiting

Why is it the State coaches wouldn?t even talk to this kid? I?m not saying offer, just be sure to talk to him. They wouldn?t even do that. He?s a Mershon type and goodness knows we need more of them.

Maybe his velo isn’t high enough? Who knows. Ross Mitchell had success with a slow FB and Schuelke does okay without one.

Ross Mitchell was dominant in the dead ball era and was bad once they changed the ball.

Mitchell got to pitch with a different ball. He wasn't the same when the ball was changed.

According to the link below, Long's fastball is in the upper 80's and off speed stuff is in the lower 70's. I guess that's a little low for the SEC these days? Seems like if he has good movement that would generate some interest.

Nah thats plenty fast enough. Not to mention he will pick up velocity once he does some college strength and conditioning. We only have a commitment from one of the Mississippi Dandy Dozen Baseball players this year. Ole Miss signed 3, USM signed 2, Texas, Baylor, LSU, Alabama, Tulane and Auburn signed one just like us.

Upper 80s is fine for a lefty. Ty is a righty. Great high school pitcher though.

His velo even as RH is plenty fast. The kid tops out at 91 as senior and by the looks of him (haven't seen him live) I would bet he's got more in the tank. He'll probably be mid 90s by his JR year if not sooner. To answer the OP, I have NO idea what we're looking at in HS kids anymore, especially in pitchers. Maybe his secondary stuff just doesn't play up is all I can guess???? But I've seen some of our out of state commits up close and left the game like "I don't get it" meanwhile another kid dominates the same game that's headed to Lipscomb, Samford or JUCO.

This was a down year for instate talent. 25 class instate is way better.

Upper 80s is fine. They will get more out of him in college.

I enjoyed watching in the state championship. But he's a kid that fits great at USM. Odom for Sumrall that's headed to OM has a higher ceiling. Drew Davis is the best of all three. MS produces a lot of kids like Long and USM wins games with them.

He's a ball player. I hope he does great at USM.

Problem w guys like this is, we sign em and they don't. Want to wait and develop and leave. Happened every year. You will see our classes get smaller and smaller and guys like this won't be a part. I'm sure he a good player

It's already happening. AU plans to sign 5 HS pitchers and 5 HS position players beginning with the 2025 class. Portal for the rest.

That's it. Sucks for high school kids. And sucks for the G5.

Exactly. If he blows up at USM we can get him in the portal potentially.

If not- no harm no foul.

So, we only signed one Dandy Dozen. That means we didn?t like the other 11, or could not afford the others, or we plan on hitting the portal real hard. We are not going to be in very good shape if we don?t get some portal players. Let?s hope Lemo has some players targeted.

Portal and a weak class in MS and Lemonis recruiting, take your pick

Thanks Cooter. I was hoping for a better response. And that doesn?t help my spirits, Lol. But I guess that?s what it is.

I think the only one we really recruited somewhat hard was Konnor Griffin. And he is never going to play college baseball.

    Maybe Sam Richardson.

This year would be even worse if Griffin didn't re-classify.
