Collision data from LSU's practices being studied.
I don't post often, but I found this interesting.http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for....%20football-a
LSU began using the accelerometers a few days into fall camp in August. They were used at 44 practices through the season, and about 25 players wear them during spring drills. The sensors were not used during games.
The heaviest hitting, as expected, came during fall camp, Marucci said.
The numbers, at first, puzzled Marucci and his staff. While offensive linemen led all position groups, collisions ranged greatly from one lineman to the other.
They finally realized why.
?Some linemen have better technique than others,? Marucci said.
Offensive linemen are taught to use their hands more than anything, especially in pass-blocking. Collins, for instance, has one of the lowest collision rates of any linemen. He?s an experienced veteran whom many expect to be a first-round NFL draft pick next year.
?He uses his hands more,? Marucci said. ?He has better technique.?

pretty damn important. I hope every youth coach in America reads this.

Great, great post and info...
That's very interesting.

Yea that's cool data. Wouldn't expect an offensive lineman that is just colliding with a pass rusher to be able to keep good position or hold a block very well.

Interesting indeed

Hope Damien Robinson is reading.

they need to consider widening the study to other schools. A single school's offensive and defensive system could dramatically impact the numbers based on style of play and positions. Dak vs Mett. Bama RB vs Ole Miss RB. State OL vs Texas Tech OL.

Very interesting. Have to think between this and the new helmets that have a camera in them you could gather a lot of data about not only how hard the hits are but possibly the angle of the head at that time. (Noone has made that connection yet but I would think it could be used as such.)

Couple things to consider:
Who is paying for the studies? and What do they want the studies to say? If you don't know it, people tend to pick what data is presented from a study depending on their agenda.
Technique? Who knew? Everyone, if you really thought about it but who did?
