We need help at DL, DE, LB, CB, S, OL, QB, and once all our WRs leave we will need WRs

I know we have been offering a bunch of JUCO kids. Not sure we have much of a choice, we need talent and depth next year after we lose so much after this season.

I'm worried about keeping our best members of this class if we don't turn the season around quickly.

We should be able to sell immediate playing time.

I think we're going to look everywhere for help. We're probably close to done with the 2024 class. They're going to hit the portal hard to try to turn this around. We're going to have a lot of new faces next year.

Exactly what they should be doing!

The problem for us is the portal is so damn expensive. FSU and LSU went heavy in the portal with differing success. Arkansas spent a bunch in the portal and it ain't helping them at all. Same with AU.
You can get a few guys to plug holes, but you can't recruit a decent team out of the portal.
We all knew that next year was going to be a growing pains year, i just had figured/hoped (and still do) that we would be coming off a big year this year.

I agree that you sustainably can not build a team out of the portal. But we're going to have to try.
2024 could be just as bad as this year or worse. Not looking forward to it.

We need portal guys. You go get the best 3 or 4 you can. Don't roll up some Goede types that have never played either. That was a waste of a spot. I'm 100% convince this staff has no clue about talent except about 3 coaches on this staff.

Just curious-what has changed your tune from this summer when some has doubts and you we?re telling us this staff would flip Pope/Martin and Petty? You seem to always be pretty knowledgeable. I?m of the the opinion it?s time for coach Hughes to go off field and get Jason on field to coach safeties. Jason has been key for us getting several of our better portal guys.
We don?t need to keep going after the Chris Keys, Ray Jones (wth happened with him??), Goode, Colorado kid types..even Rogers isn?t getting talked about-the talk is over Pollock, Evans, and Jones the freshmen class at CB.

I'm not sure we can afford them. Maybe we have more NIL money than I've been told, but for example the Fiske kid and Keon Coleman at FSU cost over 500K each based on what i have been told.
Now both of them are NFL dudes and I think it is money well spent.

I compare this to the NFL if they did away with salary caps and the draft. It will end up destroying all but about 2 dozen programs. Actually probably about 10-15 max

We were willing to pay the damn price for a stud baseball player. We should be for football too. No, we can't afford a bunch, but when you've got a major need (we've got a bunch), you better fix something.

We have one HS DL and one HS Edge in this class and can't even run 3 down linemen this season due to injuries and total lack of depth. Many recruiting fails on D past couple of years. Now we are expecting this staff to clean up in areas of need in the Portal? The lack of production or even seeing the field by this year's portal players shows a lack of evaluation skill by this staff. We have been stuck on 16 commits for some time ranked #34 nationally. A potential flip and uncommitted player, both from MS wouldn't even visit for the bama game. We are in big trouble if we don't get at least four more wins and I don't see it.

We should still get Petty and Pope. Nothing changed there really and the CO kid is damn legit. He'd be starting now if he could. Hughes isn't the Safeties coach.

Who are our "better" portal guys this year? I see little to no production from any this season.

Mike Wright should be the answer.
We really didn't spend a ton of money in the portal, we did spend NIL money to keep a lot of our seniors because we all expected this to be a damn good year. It still could be, but we need to figure some sh!t out.
If we get Petty and Flowers, that will be two of the best dual threat QB's we have ever signed in one class. Pope seems like a tweener. Not sure he is big enough for LB and too small for DB.

This may not be popular but I wouldn't be surprised if we use our NIL money on getting back our COVID guys and just try again with a new coaching staff.

Some of it may be coaching, but I had no idea we had recruited so poorly on D the last few years. We have no difference makers on DL or CB as many as we have in NFL. I heard all Spring about how much speed we had in the secondary. If so, they must be taking very bad angles when trying to cover or tackle. I know 3-3-5 is designed for front three to jam up OL & our LB's to make the tackles, but most are in pursuit 6 to 8 yards down the field. Only ST are well coached and performing at a SEC level. Better be careful who we try to retain with NIL funds (covid players).
