Funny you should ask, Mike Leach in 1999. Then he became the TTU coach. Mark Mangino took over for the championship year, was ML's OL coach

Yep the guy who just took the reigns over from the previous OC and ran the exact same things because he was an OL coach. And now Heupel himself runs Air Raid variants to this day. Leach's blueprints were there though.

How does this work? Could we do the same? I thought legally a public university coach could not have longer than 4 years.

The quote attributed to Stoops was, "I chose my first OC on the basis of my worst nightmare as a DC"

This was kind of blown over with the tweet but I don't see how it works. Either he's a state employee or he's not. Are they approaching this as he's not employed by the state university but he's coaching the state university's team and being paid all by private money?

I say let them do it and be on the hook for all kinds of $ when they want to fire him like all these other programs.

If I were them, I'd certainly go back to him and say it didn't work out. No way I'd extend him 6 plus years after the way they ended the season. They took advantage of an easy season. I can see one year to keep it together with players and recruiting but no way I extend more than 4.
