Nah, we can build a good team around Tolu, but better start landing some guys.

Well...this is what we seem to do....start all over at ground zero. Did it in football and now looks like basketball is following suit. Be careful what you wish for.....especially if you're a MSU fan.

You realize it's going to be like that from now on right? NCAA let's kids leave when the coach does.

Been saying it since last week but Jans has to get some players in ASAP.. I understand losing a couple players but he pretty much lost the entire team and the portal is dwindling down. Alot of these guys who have left lately have been around him working out the last couple of weeks.... maybe the players see something we don't. I personally wasn't impressed with his press conference, his personality just wasn't there for me like Howland or even new WBB coach Sam Purcell... but I'm still rooting for him

    Haha

I always laugh when someone is worried that the new guy may not get us to the dance when we weren't going under any of the old ones either. It may take a few years to see what he can do, but our tourney ticket budget wasn't being used anyway lol

We can certainly be worse than we have been lately. Unless things go our way soon, we'll figure it out

We got a good coach so that's the most important thing. I suspect we will see good things happen in year two.

Its a bonus he can coach and I have faith that he can but he has be able to recruit SEC guys too though.

Why wouldn't every player enter the portal and see what their free market rate is?

I thought Garcia would bring the intensity that would be a perfect match for Jans. That being said, the analytics show him as an almost identical player/ shooter to Cameron Matthews. They both struggle shooting from the outside and from the free throw line, but bring defense/rebounding. I don't think you can really play both of them at the same time because you become way too easy to guard.

We need effort along with coaching. Remember Jans beat Howland a while back.

Howlands teams never showed a lack of effort, but his coaching had become outdated and slow. Jans seems like he can really coach but you have to be able to recruit in the SEC as well.. I know Jans beat Howland, he beat some other good teams too but when your playing Tennessee, UK, Arky, Auburn, Florida, Big 12 challenge etc week in and week out you have to have SEC talent... he may bring that in, just haven't seen it yet and it looks like most of last year's team is gone so he needs to get on it

This is technically what led to Frank Martin getting fired. He is a great coach from a coaching perspective, but he can?t recruit at all. I will say though this philosophy has a better chance at making a deep tournament run if you can keep the team together for a few years and develop the talent, but that?s extremely hard to do now with the portal. If I had to pick I would rather have a bad recruiter and great coach than the opposite. I think though as long as Jans can recruit at least middle tier of the SEC we will finish in the top most years.

Good points and I agree with alot of that but I'm taking the talent. If a good coach has average talent there is only so much good coaching can do with limited talent, you have to have the players to be successful.

Iverson hires an agent so that ship officially has sailed.

At this stage what we desperately could use is a franchise tag. Beyond that magically occurring, things are not looking too good.
