He's a different coach now than last time. Different administration

Hugh couldn't handle that job. It would swallow him

He should be used to that.

If I'm USC, I call Mullen or James Franklin.
You can't go with flashy this time around. You need a hardcore football coach that will match Chip Kelly in physicality.

No he's not and this is just wishful thinking on your part. He is a great fit for OM... and vice versa.

If they had fired him back on campus instead of outside the bus, I would be pretty pumped about him going back.
That said, they would be fools not to try and hire him. Not sure who else USC goes after;

He can't win anything at OM. He's got potentially the #1 overall QB this year & won't win anything

Likely correct. I think if USC hires Mullen or Franklin, you could see Kiffin backfill one of those two spots

I don't think USC is that type of program. Certainly they have the potential to poach Kiffin, but he's already making >$5M a year on average, which is I think is more than Helton was making. Even ignoring their history, I'm not sure Kiffin jumps ship without a raise and I'm not sure USC would open the pocket book that much.
I know Mullen has a tendency to be dissatisfied, and either Franklin or Mullen might like the idea of an easier path to the playoffs coming out of the Pac-12, but they're both making more than $6M.
That said, if USC took the step of firing somebody after a 1-1 start, maybe they have boosters ready to back up the brinks truck.
