Correct. He's gonna eat a scholarship and he's a pro guy. He's a guy that might develop in time. But we we don't have 3 years for him to eat huge scholarship and not produce. Woods didn't hit 260 in hs. He's super raw. It's bad for pr to sit a guy like that and we have to win games. That's all. As for juco, we've signed him to papers if he wants to come we own it. If he wants to bail and go juco well he can

He has almost every signees we have becoming a top 4 rounder if they produce. Wow. Really. Just dumb. I'll leave it alone. His predictions are about the same success rate as Rosebowl. His record isn't good either

Unfortunately true and then it just pisses people off that we didn't get these kids even though most of us knew they were long shots. But you've got to go after them if you're a coach because you will get one every now and then.

We'll have to be patient as fans with Woods if we get him. Still don't think we do honestly. But if we do he is either going to be someone that blows up as a junior or he is going to be Jordan Anderson 2.0.

Man the kids got good stuff. Got 3 pitches that he commands and he's durable. I can't see a team wasting 32 pick on just a reliever.

Definitely a lot of contradictory things being said by the 24/7 staff and the other experts.

I'm wondering if his source is the player. Most of them are not going to burn their leverage by telling a writer that they are going pro.

Absolutely. You're gonna get one here and there but it also creates relevance and credibility when your name is on all
the top players list of schools. It's PR if nothing else. And being a competitor I want to go after the best.

I bet it was his asking price. Unless he has some physical condition I am unaware of.

Has to be that or an injury of some sort.

I wonder what Vanderbilt's percentage of getting top of the line players in is? I actually think that Leiter/Rocker was anomaly even for them. I'm interested to see if the NIL changes this for us. At least I'm hopeful that we will be able to give prospects more scholarship money while our establish players "walk-on" while their school is paid for through their merchandise. We'll see how it plays out.

Both those families have a lot of money and could bank on the fact their kids were talented enough to get drafted and no matter what have them be financially stable later in life. Definitely a bit of an outlier in that they had such successful sports families.

They get a couple years of a Vandy education, don't have to schlep it in the minors for 3-5 years, and still get to face solid competition. It's a win win for them. Hopefully doesn't become the model for those types of families to do that at Vanderbilt.

This doesn't seem like a great solution. If they need to use earnings to pay for tuition, that's still that much money that isn't going into their pocket. Even if they're able to pay those costs through NIL earnings, it's costing them a ton to do that.

I agree it's a broken system because of the scholarship situation which is the root cause of the problem. But at least the NIL may keep some guys out of debt before they go pro.

Ok so noon today begins rounds 2-10. I know we expect Woods, McCants, and Walling to go. Chance Pico Kohn does too.

Do we have any info on what those guys are looking for as far as signing bonus? Are any of them possibly in play to come to school?

Draft was a little weird last night and there's gonna be a decent number of teams I think signing 1st round guys under slot, giving them more money to use later in the draft. Concerns me about James, but really want to know if we think there's any chance those bigger 3 commits left on the board could end up in Starkville.

I know this is nit-picky, but it's a pet peeve of mine. His name is James Wood, no 's' on the end.

I'm far from a Gene fan, but Gene said he expected him to go pro. Here it is:

Mississippi State 2022 Season - Bruns committed to Mississippi State on November 12, 2018 and has been back to Mississippi State a few times for games. He seems to be very excited about his commitment to Mississippi State. Partly due to that, I expect it will be a tough decision for Bruns to make after the draft - go pro and stick with MSU. But it will be very tough for Bruns to turn down the money that he will be offered by the team that drafts him. Due to that, I believe he will sign and go pro.

Through 50 picks Wood is still on the board. Most mocks had him gone by now.

Slot value at this point has dropped below $1.5 million.
