Loss of Jordan Danberry (to an extent..also Bibby, Espinoza-Hunter),, change of coaches and systems, some coaching and player growing pains, SEC being much improved, players losing confidence, overall energy level being down...all appear to be big keys to he team's decline thus far this season. Also, though very talented players, staff possibly not working with near the idea personel for her particular system. Offensively, Coach Schaefer had been mostly utilizing the Vance Walberg motion dribble drive, especially over the previous 2 seasons. Coach McCray-Penson and staff may or maynot have even known how to continue successfully running this even if they wanted to incorporate it or apects of it into what they do. Reported that Coach Schaefer went to Atlanta to learn it himself. Defensively, Coach Schaefer...utilized heavy pressure, emphasizing high level conditioning, effort and energy...sustained, wearing teams down.
Appears that new staff went a good bit away from the system that was in place....wheels came off. Taking a lot more time than the coaching staff and fans had previous thought to successfully implement the new system with this team, especially with the talent level and high preseason expectations. I still see potential in Coach McCray-Penson. She will need to assess, regroup,, and adjust moving forward. Take this as a learning experience, move forward while using it to your advantage. Why can't she eventually turn this thing around? Adversity is one thing, how you handle, respond it is another. Recommend...give her time, support as she attempts to right the ship moving forward.
I feel that I was the main supporter of giving the job to Coach Johnnie Harris, long time with Coach Schaefer's system at Miss. State, with him and Gary Blair at Texas A&M as well. Though, after Coach McCray-Penson got the jiob....put my support behind her and her staff. Still support.

Recognizing that she doesn't have a single positive trait as a head coach doesn't mean that I don't support her. I would like for her to win here. I just don't think she is capable of doing it.

Girls got popular. More than men's is. More fans care than you think. But I agree, Cohen is a terrible AD.

Good coaches adapt to the players they have and make winners out of them. She will never have a more talented roster than she currently has. Thus for i do not see her ever figuring it out here.

It doesnt help that Big Red is having a great year playing for the #7 team in the country and EH is playing well for another NCAA Tourney team

Yeah there is no way to spin it. One of the worst coaching jobs I can ever remember at any school.

How anyone can defend her shows how out of touch some fans are. Hell the OP is either JC or NMP

We're paying her a big salary for a women's basketball coach. Not as much as Vic and Geno, but still a lot. I suspect those fans that packed the Hump for games the past few years would be willing for State to fork out a little more money for a proven coach. The Oregon guy just signed a contract for $1M, but we should offer him a little more (I think Vic was $1.5M or so) to entice him to come southward. Or the Louisville coach that retired (Walz?).

It was all over the moment Cohen hired an unproven coach with a different system. We had lightning in a bottle. We aren?t getting it back.

FIRE HER NOW. More transfer coming for sure and who would really want to sign with her after this dumpster fire of a season.

Fixed it for you

It sucks to go down so fast. But I gotta be honest, I don?t give WBB the first thought.

Cohen just outsmarted himself here instead of hiring Harris. I have no idea how Harris would?ve turned out honestly and I don?t know women?s hoops like I do the three big men?s sports, so therefore I can?t comment on it there were other coaches available that he should?ve hired instead. I will say, being from Pennsylvania, I knew Moorhead was going to be a disaster from day one, but I actually thought this one might work. I still don?t fault Cohen so much for this as I do Moorhead, but it did seem like she had a decent thing at Old Dominion. I think the jump was just too big. At least if Harris didn?t work out I don?t think the outcry would be as bad because we could say we essentially tried Vic 2.0 and it didn?t work

Let me say this, I can sorta understand the hire, McCray had all the check marks of being or having a chance to be a good Sec coach. Great player, good experience as an assistant in a top Sec program, and improvement as a HC at a use to be power house WBB school. Now as for as Harris, I read someone stated she wasn't a HC material, only thing I see in this maybe this is true as Harris was a twenty year assistant at three different Sec schools. Maybe she wasn't ready, maybe she was interested but for whatever reason Cohen thought McCray was the better choice. McCray just knocked it out of the park in the interview plus Cohen knew more about Harris.
In thinking and saying this, bad hire and I just don't have the faith McCray will turn this around and like some on ED who knows what Harris might have done with this team.
