Assist my memory. Was Sly not hell-bent on running the WCO?
When the talent was not there? I try to forget those years

Yes. The Croom Coast Offense.
"After dealing with Ole Miss for over a year," he said, "I've learned to expect their leadership to do and say things that the leadership at other Division I schools would never consider doing and to justify their actions by reminding themselves that "We're Ole Miss.""

Yes, he was even bringing in Borges supposedly to replace Woody if we would have given him another year. I believe his last ditch effort, he even agreed to go with a spread offense but it was too late by then.

This is correct. Which goes against what many choose to believe

Why would we have brought in a noted WCO OC like Borges to run a Spread? Borges was still running WCO as late as 2018.

He was bringing in Borges supposedly before the Egg Bowl debacle to replace Woody and still run the WCO. He was pressured to change something on Offense. I believe Byrne wanted a spread offense and Croom offered to go to the spread if he was allowed another year and Byrne declined. I don't know this for a fact but it was what was the rumors around that time.

He did NOT agree to run a spread offense. That’s why he was asked to resign. He was bringing in a WCO guru. Byrne said alrighty then, goodbye.
-
Well we are right back to that now. Croom Part II.
You hear those bells mother-fudder....an Air-RAID is coming and that is yo ass!
-
As long as I'm the coach, we will run this offense...(except for 1 game vs UF.)

2007 Kentucky where Rocky Felker called the plays was decent too.

I think he only agreed to go with the spread after the Egg Bowl but it was too late by then. It was obvious that he had lost the team. That was the rumor anyway.

Byrne told Croom State was running the Spread Offense in 2009 and he was making the hire. Croom said not with him as HC so let’s get to work on a buyout.

I'm assuming it was probably Hud that would have been our OC.

It runs a little bit better with Montana, Rice, and Craig vs. Henig, Will Prosser, and well Norwood was good. And Bill Walsh and Croom are not even on the same planet as far as head coaches go.
