Small's problem was not the stretch affecting his timing, or with tipping pitches. Small's problem was the velo going from 91 to 88 and the location missing, often with bp results

He has been 87-93 with his fastball since the first inning. It is the timing and location of his pitches that works. That is how he leads the league in Ks pitching mostly fastballs.
