Probably just using extreme caution with JT, figure we can get away with it with Alabama. I hope.

Did you think we'd bring JT back on short rest? He pitched Sunday last week.

I bet he gets the week off personally, but I also think he's fine after that.

Being cautious with him, we need him for the long haul. Should be fine.

No Gun, I didn't think that. I was just making an observation. Don't be so quick to jump on somebody's comment, I don't do that to you, when you are sometimes out of your lane.

Regardless it ain’t good. Hope JT recovers and moves forward for his future. I listen he other night to OM ex outfielder David Deloucie (I know spelling isn’t correct). He hates Travel Ball, says parents don’t let their kids just be kids. Talked about all the arm surgery even from 9 and 10 year olds. Says playing football helps baseball players by being tougher. Playing basketball helps baseball players be a better athlete.
I totally agreed with what he had to say. This isn’t about JT, it’s about parents.

I think we start him against Texas Southern to see where he is and let him have a very short outing and go from there assuming all is well. Total guess on my part.

I think there is good/bad with travel ball. I think there needs to be some heavy restrictions that go with it. It's a catch-22 because those AB's/IP's all help with development as well. I agree that playing other sports helps baseball players become better players.

I agree with what you say. The thing is teenagers and some younger playing 100 games a year with there team and Travel ball is just crazy. Now days kids go to camp such as a Nike sponsor say, they ask kids to throw for scouts. It's crazy, I have a grandson who is a pitcher and committed to us in another year, I worry about all the camps and travel ball teams. He played on two last year, good thing for him is he only been pitching 3 years and his Dad has college experience so he watches his pitch count.

Travel ball isn't the problem. It's the parents and coaches that lets the kid play all year long or throw a 100 pitches every time out. As Todd said it helps with development but it has to be done wisely and in moderation just like anything else. I coached travel ball for 20 years. I always carried at least 8 guys that could throw and we only played spring/summer. In the fall winter my players played football, basketball or soccer. We played some of the best talent in the southeast and it definitely helped my kids with their development. Many have played college ball and some more on the way. I've also seen the ugly side of travel ball. Several years ago the 14u team I was coaching played a team from Pensacola in early season tournament championship game. I threw each of my pitchers their 40 pitches each. The other coach threw his ace all 7 innings. Kid threw 140 pitches. They beat us 5-4 but I don't know how that coach could sleep at night after that. Seen that happen more than once. Just as with anything there is good and bad.

Don't underestimate them by any means. They're not bad at all. They hit 9 homeruns this week against Samford. That's correct NINE! Beat them 21-2.

Most orthopedists I know say travel ball FROM A YOUNG AGE and year round play in ONE sport is THE problem. They say it should be banned.

No doubt playing one sport year round is a problem that's why I never did it. Playing baseball year round is not a good thing at all. Not only can it injure a young body but it burns a kid out and a lot grow to hate the sport which sucks cause baseball is a great game. Dr James Andrews clinic is one of my accounts so I've gotten some pretty good info on taking care of young arms.

Here's another take on year round sports. Basketball and football are starting to become year round sports as well, with all the 7 on 7 and aau basketball going on. Expect to see increases in knee injuries(and according to dr Andrews this is already happening) and other lower body injuries to young athletes as these other sports go this route. Once again it's not the sport but the over use of the athlete.

This happened to the son of a very good friend of mine. He literally got to where he hated the game. He was burned out by the time he was 14. He never had time to just be a kid. Travel ball is also extremely expensive and the truth is that not all families can afford it. People wonder why there aren't more minorities playing baseball. Truth is, many simply can't afford it and as a result don't aggressively pursue playing the game.

I’m completely ok with Plumlee getting the ball on Saturday. To me personally he looked comfortable out there on the bump last Saturday. Other than his 1 blunder that cost us 2 runs he pitched well enough for us to win 1-0. I like the thought of Small on Friday Plumlee on Saturday and Ginn on Sunday personally. But again that’s just my opinion *♂️

In just a casual look at our pitching stats in the last decade. We have not had a freshman pitch 100 innings in this span. JT is at 44 at the appropriate mid point of the season. 6 more SEC starts, 1 Regional, 1 Super, and 2 Omaha

    Self - 48 in 2017
    McQ - 55 in 2017
    Pilk - 43 in 2016
    Gentry - 31 in 2013
    Holder - 28 in 2012
    Stratton - 78 in 2010
    Graveman - 50 in 2010
    Routt - 86 in 2009
    Evan Mitchell - 48 in 2011

Meanwhile in Baton Rouge, Alex Lange had 350 inning career in 3 years at LSU and Jared Poche pitched 415 innings in 4 years

Educate me- do you have to play travel ball to be great at baseball? What's the development path for the Latin America players? Is travel ball a lifestyle? To get noticed? Or to become great?

A Puerto Rican coach told me that USA young players are far more polished than PR youngsters and PR destroys teenager arms as collateral damage to playing lots of games. But, he says PR players get far more Glove time and ABs. He says the Latin players thus have far more Twitch than polished USA players.

    My kid is 4
