Coaches Salaries
After reading about Malzahn's big raise, it got me to thinking. Why do we continue to "toe the line" when it comes to coaches' salaries? I read that this will put Mullen at 12 or 13 (SEC) and our assistants continue to be at the very bottom. With the espn contract, why can we not up all coaches' pay? It could lead to much better assistants, etc...

It's really easy, per state law the school can only pay x amount and the rest is provided by the bulldog club. Bulldog club doesn't see the contract money it's all personal donations

Well, I agree we have to up the pay- BUT- just because we are suddenly getting more money doesnt mean we are on the same level as all these schools that have had more money than us for 100 years.

This. We get ESPN money and so does every other school in the conference. So the schools already ahead of us will stay ahead of us, so comparing us to other schools within the conference will keep us near the bottom of the list.
But when you compare us with the rest of the country, we absolutely are increasing pay relative to the money we're bringing in. It just so happens that the other massive coach salaries are being paid by other SEC schools...kind of like recruiting.

the point remains though, as our income increases the coaches salaries should increase. Also, we should pay what other ace schools are paying whether we can afford it or not. it's the only way we'll ever keep top notch assistants at State.
