An earlier post on ED asked the question: How many first rounders end up playing college ball?

Here are the stats, of course, it definitely doesn't favor the maroon & white

MLB spring drafts - 1st round only

Years: 2009 - 2017

Total Players drafted: 295

Players unsigned: 11

Players unsigned status: 4 were in college
7 were in high school

Some noted winners/losers:

Win - Phil Bickford drafted 1st round 2013 by Jays, did not sign, played college ball at CS Fullerton, drafted 1st round 2015 by Giants for $2.3M bonus

Loss - Matt Purke drafted 1st round 2009 by Rangers (reportedly for a $4M bonus), did not sign, was a star player at TCU, drafted 3rd round by the Nationals and signed in 2011. Early Injury issues.

Based on the stats, the college experience definitely seem to take a back seat to dollars in hand. You be the judge.
