Depends on how he performs next year. Injuries aren't the death sentence they used to be. 1.5 million would have been overslot for his actual projection at the time. Would have been surprised if a team spent that on him. My guess is that was his likely asking price rather than what MLB was willing to offer. He was always a guy that needed development and the most likely way he would have gotten 1.5 million was to come to college and perform.
We have seen pitchers recover from injuries and get large signing bonuses- see Ethan Small and likely Pico Kohn. Stone Simmons was out for two years and now he is throwing 94 and performing well. On a national scale- Hunter Elliott from Ole Miss I'm sure will also be paid well also.
