1980 VS 2016
1980:
1. Alabama was the defending national champions.
2. Alabama was on a 20 plus game win streak
3. I was 12 years old
4. A guy who many considered a bafoom outsider upset the front runner for president.
5. Miss State had a tough, hard running option QB
6. Miss State was the underdog with no hope of winning.
7. Miss State won
2016:
1. Alabama is the defending national champions.
2. Alabama is on a 20 plus game win streak.
3. My son is 12 years old
4. A guy who many considered a bafoom outsider up set the front runner for president.
5. Miss State has a tough, hard running option QB
6. Miss State is the big underdog with no hope of winning.

Is this the part where I say it would be very MSU of us to upset Bama then lose the last two??*****
I will say this. If we beat Bama somehow I don't think there will be much chance we beat Arkansas. You see it all the time. The let down is unavoidable unless just head and shoulders above the follow up opponent, which we are not. So, it will probably still come down to the Egg Bowl. But with that said, I'd rather beat Tide than Tusk.
The Liberation will not be televised--- when it arrives like lightning in the skies!

1980 had an o-line that kicked ass and took names. Also one of the best defenses we've ever had.
I believe we had at least 8 players drafted into the NFL that were on that roster.
Glen Collins
Johnie Cooks
Larry Friday
Tyrone Keys
Mardye McDole
Glen Young
George Wonsley
Michael Haddix

There is always a negative nanny.

Jack great observation....two things they had some mean SOBs in the off line and the defense was fierce at times.....not negative just kudos to that team......
-

C'mon, man. I'm a lot closer to a sunshine-pumper than a NN. Just sayin', we had a truly great, talented team that year. We also ran a devastating triple-option offense.

Yeah, after getting clobbered by USM at our homecoming, I think we won our last 5 games against some pretty good teams-Miami, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, and Ole Miss. I remember Billy Jackson sacking John Fourcade at mid-field at the end to win the Ole Miss game.

1 State had the #2 overall pick at MLB
2 State had maybe the best DL in their history
3 State had 2 NFL guys in the secondary
4 Both teams ran an offense INVENTED by State's coach
5 The game is in Tuscaloosa
6 State was 1 play away from being the SEC champs that year
Not only did Mississippi State embarrass LSU on this night. Davis Wade Stadium wrecked Tiger Stadium in music choice, atmosphere and, most of all, volume.

Florida screwed us twice, if they had made an extra point in 1999 to beat Alabama at home in the final seconds instead of going to OT and losing we would have gone to Atlanta and been the West Champs two years in a row.
That Run Lindsey Run play in Jacksonville cost us the SEC Championship in 1980.

A truer statement may have never been spoken. Man we were close 98-2000 of finally breaking through consistently.
