Is this our new baseball radio announcer? Someone Learfield hired? He?s good, knows our team. I wish Jay Powell would talk more.
What?s his name?

Neil will be the regular play-by-play guy but he has to deal with basketball, unfortunately, until the season is over. The guy handling this weekend is very good though. And I love listening to Jay doing the color commentary.

From what I was told Neil has always wanted the baseball gig when Jim finally retired. Neil loves doing baseball more than anything and it was part of him accepting the job with us
Walk like the King or walk like you don't care who the King is

I know this is sacrilege - but I didn't miss Jim at all listening to the game today. He really should have retired 5 years ago. The kid and Jay did a great job. Look forward to Neil and Jay.

Jim got hated on during his later years for missing calls/making mistakes, and it was attributed to him “losing a step”. I’ve listened to every game on the radio and been to every home game this year. Neil and Colby miss as many calls and make as many mistakes as Jim did. Colby called Tech Arizona State twice yesterday, and got all screwed up on the count and outs a couple of times. Neil has missed stuff (misses pitch descriptions frequently), and had one terrible game that he called himself out on this year. Point is, we were biased against Jim’s misses because he had been doing it for so long and never achieved the legend status that Jack did. Neil and Colby are awesome, but not really better accuracy-wise at this point than Jim was. Jay Perry is a great color guy, and like a great color guy, he never corrects the play-by-play guy.
Colby’s day job is doing the calls and stadium announcing and sometimes the stats for William Carey (he talked about that during the Va Tech game).

There's no Colby. It's Caleb Hammill. He's filled in for Neal a few times this year. He filled in a few basketball games when Neil was still with football and has done a few baseball games as well. He's a Mississippi State grad so he's not some fill in from Learfield.
Neil likes baseball and part of him not taking another job in the , I believe, 2023 offseason was that he was guaranteed baseball when Jim retired. And he was told that 2024 would be Jim's last year.

JIM IS A LEGEND. Leave him alone.

Thought the radio coverage was great this weekend! Caleb seemed to know his stuff.

jim was outstanding and his voice is the voice of bulldog baseball. neil does a great job IMO. i think he is really good at all the sports. and jay powell is top notch as the color guy.
i was not crazy about the guy this weekend personally. i listened to a little bit of all the games and he got tongue tied and said the wrong thing just as much as jim did in the later years. i think he'd be a decent tv guy but he struggled with the more descriptive nature of calling on radio.
and not to be a hater...........however, i'd love to see us get a decent color guy for the sec network plus games. it seems we would have a plethora of qualified folks that could bring more timely and knowledgeable commentary.

Charlie and Bart do a great job tbh. Jay was never great on TV and is much better on radio and Matt just doesn't know baseball at the level he needs to so that he could do color.

I always thought that Matt was an odd choice for baseball. Especially considering there are plenty of former MSU players around that would probably love to do it.

Agreed. Sure he had some missteps later in his career but he is a legend and rightfully so.

i'm referring to charlie. i don't know the guy. i'm sure he's a great bulldog. but when you have the former players that we have then he should not be doing color commentary for baseball games, nor should matt. and i'm just not a fan of chariie's style. i think he would be great for a pre/post game type deal. just my opinion.
