Hope Everyone Had a Happy SMASH Wednesday

After the Alcorn beatdown. Props to Nick Mershon who I stole Smash Wednesday from.

It's becoming time to define roles on the baseball team. Here's how I see it.

    Friday- McPherson
    Sat- Valinicous
Sun- Stone but Foster should get another chance this weekend.

    Midweek- Foster, maybe Kirk

    Closer- Webb
    Set-up- Ben Davis
    Relief Ace- Sweeney
Set-up 1B- Pitzer. He has to have a role for us and I think he will. If we made him NIL promises that he would start and he is our midweek guy that is fine but we still need to use him out of the pen some.
Mr. Fix it- Gleason. He's good for getting us out of jams
Wild cards- Bauer and Beliveau. We'll bring them along slowly but their progress throughout the year will be interesting to say the least. The good thing is no pressure on them because of the talent MSU has. William Kirk is also a bit of a wild card as well but will definitely pitch more.

Catcher- Chone James for now but I think Milewski will figure things out soon. If not, I could see Andrew Raymond taking over if James defense doesn't improve.

1B- Bevis and Stallman. Bevis seems to be starting to get comfortable now.
2B- Frei and Wyers. Straight up L/R platoon.
3B- Ace Reese. Looking like he may have a special season.
SS- Ryder Woodson. Seems to be settling in as well.

LF- Chance/Vytas. They're going to push each other all year.
    CF- Teel
    RF- Nunnalee/Vytas.
    DH- Noah

I have a feeling that it will take a good while for the pitching to shake out. I’m thinking Valincius is our Ace b/c of his pitch variety that McPherson doesn’t have. I was a little surprised by Maddox Miller’s velocity; everything that I have read and heard about him said 91mph but things change and they apparently have. He has had an SEC change up since 11th grade, but of course the only one that i saw him throw he kept up. He got a called strike out of it but you could tell he was pissed with himself.

We have so many pitchers with talent but limited or no experience that we are going to just have to wait and see what they do against better competition. The same goes for position players like Wyers and Valincius. Some players are just better game players and some are better in practice. Valincius looks good swinging it and he put up good numbers last year, so he may end up demanding playing time; maybe have a rotation of him, Nunalee, and Chance like you mentioned.

It's ok to throw Val on Saturday even if he is pitching the best. Other teams throw their #1 on Sat

Try not to get hung up on velo, remember that spin rate is being coached and is what makes some fastballs very different than others.

We're eventually going to have Tomas on Friday's but for now we're keeping him on Sunday for next week in Dallas. Us vs UCLA could be for the right to be Number 1 in the country.
