Extended scoring lapses have been continuing for Miss. State.
Also, Jaylah Lampley hasn't been taking shots in this game aswell as rarely shooting the last few games and this has been affecting the team scoring. Need Lampley taking shots. Im not with Coach Purcell on this. Without these (more than Francis alone) freshmen this team is exposed and team looking at a tough SEC season. Staff will either learn this now or learn the hard way.

Freshman Jaylah Lampley with several big shots in the second half helps give the team much needed momentum as they hold off Louisiana Monroe and move to 7-1 on the season.

Way too many times we are allowing opponents to get square for shots, whether it be in the paint or on the perimeter. A hand in the face or running at them simply isn’t going to deter a lot of players at the D1 level. Opponents too often are also too balanced when throwing up shots in traffic. Allowing a team to shoot 42% overall and 44% from three is unacceptable. Coach Purcell has got to a better job getting them to deny the good lower body positioning.
I’m also getting more concerned about what forwards with size are going to do to us in the post. Right now K Richardson is the only one denying position down low.
On the positive side we have the ability to conduct a very disruptive press with our mix of length and quickness.
I was also encouraged by some of the play of S King today. She did a good job of communicating during our press.
Still a lot of concerns overall but there are encouraging signs.

Agree, definitely alot of things to work on still but we have some positives as well. ULM had only lost one game all year coming into this so I had a feeling it wouldn't be a cake walk.

Who coaches the defense for the women's basketball team? They appear to be doing a good job in certain areas and at times but lacking a good bit in certain other areas defensively. Need another rim protector besides Madison Francis. Agree about Richardson's ability to match-up defensively in the low post. Teams have been getting physical with Favour Nwaedozi..trying to move her around in the paint, ect. Need her to be technically sound defensively. Also, she can use her speed , quickness, length, athleticism and HIGH energy level to her advantage against the bigger, stronger post players...out work them. Will need 6-7 Rocio Jimenez to come in games and help this group match-up especially come SEC. Keep putting in extra practice work with freshman Nataliyah Gray's defense. 6-6 transfer Faith Wylder is a player that appears to have the raw tools from an athleticism stand point..suggest hang in there and keep working hard, learning, keep getting better. She's young and has the upside..patience needed here. Offensively these post players have continued missing a high amount of easy (including point blank) looks at the basket. A lot of this stuff is on the coaching staff needing to have them better prepared..fundamenls, drills, techniques, ect. Also agree, guards and others get out and better contest perimeter shooters.
