I have to laugh at the drama

Brian Kelly's lawyer telling Lsu they have till Monday to pay the $53Million in payments monthly till 2031 or they will pursue with lawsuit. Here is the deal with what happened to Kelly, he was told to fire his OC, and he refused after the loss to TAM. Then Kelly got pissed off as he was talking on the phone to several board members or athletic officials and started raising hell with them. They told him to calm down and take a 3-minute break to cool off which he didn't. This is when the trigger was pulled to fire him. It is or was Lsu saying he agreed to a smaller settlement but that doesn't seem true. He holds all the cards in this contract. It was foolish to fire him after that loss as it has backfired with really a worse situation. Just play out the season with a coach at least till the last game of the season.

They were right to fire him and get a head start on finding the new guy. LSU intends to invoke the morals part of his contract to chop the buyout in half. It's drama but it's also LSU and a very good coaching job. Only an idiot cant win a title at LSU

They have the right to fire But why not wait a few days and have a sit down and discuss things. Calling on the phone after a disastrous loss caused the problem. Why not go face to face and try and settle things?

If I am LSU, when I knew I was going to fire him I conjure up a way to catch him in a situation where you have proof he violated the morales clause and then hold it over his head. Sinister I know.

They supposedly hired a PI to tail him since the beginning of the season. They knew this firing was coming

The problem with this approach is that there is a process for dismissal under the morals clause in his contract. They are supposed to notify him of the violation and give him 7 days to respond. Then they can determine if the offense is "fireable." They did none of that, obviously, and now want to go back to that. It won't fly and has to look bad to any prospective coach.

And Kelly's response to them was he did nothing wrong based on his contract. But could not happen better to a bunch of Corndogs! Talk about Village People!

It seems to me that a lawsuit would work in LSU's favor. Forcing a lawsuit means this can drag out for a long time before they really have to pay anything.

But it Also makes LSU, from a perception standpoint, a worse job. What potential coach, with options, would want to walk into that mess and it potentially end like it did with Kelly?

one would think that Kelly had the legal high ground, but remember this is Louisiana where LSU is king, I could see a jury/judge siding with the University

Kelly does have the high ground. He has the contract terms on his side.

He also has the high ground because Trace Armstrong, his agent, represents Joe Brady as well. And there's a group of LSU boosters that REALLY want to hire Brady.

Only an idiot would take the job, UNLESS he has a Kelly-like contract. The coonasses expect nothing less than a natty every year!! So yeah, you can win one there, but come the next August, it's "What have you done for me lately!!" The coach loses a game or two he's not supposed to, and the wolves are howling again!! And then you've got the governor doing the hiring and firing and the sitting AD is a total figurehead.
