After last night, got me thinking, what is the worst

loss in MSU history? I mean absolute had the game won but lost. Not talking about Maine, USA, etc.

The immaculate deflection I don't count because that was an act of God.

I honestly can't think of one worse than last night. 17 pt lead in the 4th quarter in a game where we dominated the game - 5 sacks, 12 TFL and we lose

The one that made me the saddest was the 2014 loss at Alabama, for what it would have meant for the program.

The most disgusting would be losing to a 4-8 Tulane team at home in 2006 when Croom desperately needed a win to get things on track, followed closely by Lebby's loss to Toledo last year - not necessarily the losing but the level of dominance.

Yeah Bama was very disappointing and we win that game if Dak hadn't had a bad day throwing 2 int in the endzone where we would have scored.

But I was thinking more of where we melted down in the end to lose where we had it won. Kinda like we've done Auburn twice. Bama being up 24-0 at half on Cam N was real bad. Last night is worst I can remember.

Oh, and Moorhead's loss to Florida was probably the angriest and most disappointed I've ever been leaving the stadium. I had been looking forward to that game for almost a year.

1997 sucked worse or any loss in the Egg.

97 year was so disappointing as we lost the last two to not win the SECW after beating Aub 20-0 in Aub who won the west. We were the best team in SECW all year till two eggs at end of year. And to make matters worse, we finished 7-4 and didn't even get a bowl game.

Agree that 17 loss was bad; we didn't have a 17 pt lead but we had a late lead and lost. Bama wasn't #1 then, they were down that year as their D was worst in Saban's career minus first year.

They were number 1 in the AP and Coaches Poll, idk why they were 2 in the playoff rankings. And they went on to win the national championship, I wouldn?t call that a ?down? team compared to Saban teams that didn?t win it all. We all realized that night no matter what Bama is an automatic loss and even without Saban I don?t see that changing. We just embrace our loser mentality against them. I would honestly rather play Georgia every year than Bama

The Artie Cosby FG has to rank up there.

99 Bama. Phantom holding call on the Pig Prather punt return completely changes the game. If we win that one, we win the West two years in a row. Might've been undefeated heading into the SECCG and play in either the BCS Championship Game or one of the BCS bowls depending on the outcome of the SECCG.

Sure, but the year before that we intercepted that team in the end zone and the refs called pass interference and gave it to forecade on the one yard line. This all occurred right in front of me. Freshman year at State.

The best I remember is they had a lot of injuries on defense for that game. They were missing some key linebackers. I remember ?Don?t Stop Believing? being played and I think it was the loudest I?ve ever heard it.

When we came back and absolutely destroyed Auburn with Will Rogers. That was awesome.

Yesterday, just use the clock and run the damn ball and they do not have enough time to come back and beat us.

The 2008 EB left me with a pretty hopeless feeling. We had an NFL caliber receiver Brandon McRae ( probably the only one during Croom) nearly break his leg off in the game as well. 2011 @Auburn, @ Tennessee 2019, last week at Fla and last night are some of the worst I can remember. I'd say last night was the worst in many years. That loss will sting for over a decade even when we will keep losing because it'll be remembered as a start of a new life cycle of unprecedented misery, finally giving way to apathy and burial.

Yep I think you are correct. They were missing some big D pieces and their D was not near as good. The blitz late cost us the game and Hurts won the game.

The 99 win at Aub was equally as good and maybe better in some ways. The Auburn fans had already left the stadium with 5 min to play. MSU owned the stadium to watch MSU win in 99. That comeback was more impressive that what TX did even. Jacks call of the Matt Butler TD to win it. We did that with Matt Wyatt the backup QB too.

I don't even know that this loss is in my Top 5, maybe not even Top 10 MSU. Jackie's years had multiple runs of awful losses.

'91 - Jackie having started out great, loses a tight one at Tennessee 24-26; then the next week against UF our OL breaks his leg and dies a couple of days later. Then we lose to a bad Memphis team at home and at Bama in a gut wrenching 13-7 game.
'92 - we are still in play for the SEC west - just have to close the last 2 games. Bama Refs beat us 30-21; then lose at OM 17-10.
'93 - How about starting your season in the Top 25 and getting beat by Memphis by 10 at home; then tying ARKANSAS STATE 15-15 and go 3-6-2 on the year
    '95 - The joy of losing 34-32 to a 2-9 Louisiana-Monroe.
'96 - Loss to La Tech. Then, after we beat #8 Alabama, lose at home to a 4-7 Arkansas team 16-13.
'97 - We've beaten Bama and Auburn back to back and can tie LSU for the West - then the #15 Dogs lose 17-7 at Arkansas (4-7) and home in the Egg 15-14. Then out 7-4 get snubbed for a Bowl

I say all this to point out something. I know eras are different, etc. But we had one of the best coaches of his era, arguably our best modern coach. He had 12 years of HC experience when he got here. And his teams made as many boneheaded penalties; he made as many boneheaded calls; made terrible decisions at times; had terrible QB play across multiple seasons; and lost to teams far worse then Toledo (who actually went 8-5 and beat an ACC team in their bowl); missed huge opportunities to have major wins; and had some of our idiot fans so done with him by '95-'96 they were trying to push him out for A Division II coach.

People only want to remember the good time under the Kang - but there was a whole lot of disappointment in Starkville in the years leading up to '98-'99.
"After dealing with Ole Miss for over a year," he said, "I've learned to expect their leadership to do and say things that the leadership at other Division I schools would never consider doing and to justify their actions by reminding themselves that "We're Ole Miss.""
