How soon can our OL learn who to block?

It seems if we can figure out who to block and who not to let run un/barely touched to the QB, Shapen may have 1 more second to throw the football.

It isn't knowledge of what to do. It's the ability to do it. We'd have been fine if Reese was healthy. But Luke Doesn't Work couldn't block one of us.

Probably next season if we're lucky.

I know Luke is catching hell, but I do think he’s got potential. He’s just not there yet. He and Jimothy Lewis are only in their second year. Being a good SEC lineman takes time.

He was playing out of position. I remember Larry Allen doing that in the NFL and he was awful at tackle which wasn't his natural position. And he is one of the greatest offensive linemen of all time.

Hopefully two weeks. Getting Reese back should help a lot. I think we're going to have to go with Reese and Jayvin James a lot at tackle and hopefully that will settle things down.

Can we not go after lineman from some of the schools that fired their coaches?

I'm pretty sure we are. It would be stupid not to throw your hat in the ring on some of those guys.

We have also had too much turnover in OL coaching recently. Watching aTm concerned me more than just the talent level as on one play (among others), LT with TE to help slid left and DE just looped inside them both. Also having much trouble with blitz of all types. Hope current OL coach can get it done with better evaluation, recruiting success and coaching.

Not "one of", but "the greatest" interior olineman of all time! Larry Allen used to make choo choo noises whenever Dallas was about to run the ball thru his gap, letting defenses know what was coming and they still couldn't stop it. He was a force on the oline that we might not ever see again.

His strength stories are legendary: 700-pound bench press, a 900-pound squat, and 43 reps of 225 pounds at the 2006 Pro Bowl Strongest Man Challenge

We need Reese to be healthy.

He takes this OL from putrid to just bad.

A little different perspective on the subject but my quick take on most difficult positions to master 1-5 (feel free to pick at as I'm not a coach):

    1. Quarterback
    1. Cornerback
    2. Linebacker
    3. Running back
    3. Lineman (center and left tackle being key here)
    4. Defensive end
    5. Defensive tackle

No quarrels except RB at #10, and difficult to see OL at #1. Maybe LT and center at #3. But that's from a superfan perspective; certainly respect someone actually in the game.

I think it depends on what position on the offensive line we're talking about too. Center to me is probably a little more challenging because of the leadership aspect you expect from your center. Tackle to me, is more about being an athlete. If you are a freak athlete with strength and size you might be able to play tackle adequately. Guard to me is probably the easiest.

It doesnt matter which position on the OL- they are all difficult to play. You have guys that 9 times out of 10 are going against a faster, or more gifted athletic player than them.

Guards- have to go against big, physical DT's
C- dealing with a good Nose may be the most difficult job on the field or having to snap the ball and cut off a blitzing LB'er in either A gap
OT's- going against freak athletes that weigh 260-270 but can run a damn 4.6/4.7 forty.

I can say my father would agree with you since he played guard for State.
