    MLB draft reminder

As we get close to the draft that will affect us greatly this Spring- let's make sure we have some reminders as we watch what happens:

Any player drafted in the Top 3 rounds is gone. There is no hope they will come to State
Any player drafted in the Top 10 rounds- 90% chance they arent coming to State- NIL gives us a punchers chance but MLB isnt wasting a pick in the Top 10 rounds unless they are pretty sure that guy is signing.

Rounds 11-20...here is where the excitement begins. Some MLB teams have extra money to spend in these rounds to sign players. So this will be an MLB pay vs college NIL battle vs do I like the team that drafted me battle. Here is where we will sweat the rest of the summer.

This all starts Sunday. Big couple of days for us

Who, in your guesstimation, do we have a chance of keeping that would be somewhat surprising? I'm not expecting to keep either Parker, the P from Rice, or Harmon. I've seen it mentioned that there is a very slight possibility of keeping the lefty that has clocked 103 that Oak brought with him. But, I would be surprised that a big h.s. lefty that throws like that makes it to campus.

JoJo Parker will be a high 1st round pick most likely
Bauer is ranked around 60- so it will depend what number he is giving teams. Would be surprised if he makes it to college
Harmon is Top 100 and likely gone
    Same with Jacob Parker
Godbout from Va is Top 100 guy so he likely signs a deal
Rhodes is predicted Top 5 rounds so probably not coming to college
Teel is around 180 so the watch is he taken in Top 10 rounds- if so likely gone because there is a deal in place.
Pico is a Top 250 and will be gone of course (as will Ligon)
Mershon is a Top 250 so the watch for him is the same as Teel- Top 10 rounds or no

Then those ranked outside the top 250 but are older and could sign to begin a pro career:

    Williams
    Sully
    Frei
    Siary
    Bevis
    Hickson

thanks. definitely alot that could go different ways. I was assuming that Hickson was rated higher than that. I guess he is one that NIL could play a factor.

The sky isn't falling, I am no expert, but I do know than kids have a good chance of going to college now days after the 5 or 6 rounds. Things will work out as BOC has proven himself over the years, he can get players in school and his records prove he is a winner. We have never had a baseball coach like him in my lifetime. It's hard making a ML team, smart kids no this and have goals but sometimes they need to mature and go to college.

Yes, we will most likely lose some, but we will get most in school I hope and believe we will. I love what I have seen with this staff and look forward to better years ahead.

P.S. We just picked up another catcher, recruiting will go on to replace those we lose in draft. It never stops.

I'm really not worried about it.
We can lose those guys and still be very good.
Would love to have them of course.

Nobody said the sky was falling but it is certainly something to monitor for our baseball team. It's a big damn deal and you know it.

Only 4 guys drafted in the Top 10 rounds last season did not sign. As I said- if you go in the Top 10 rounds- there is pretty much a deal in place with a number agreed upon unless you are a 4 year guy with no leverage and then you are just at the mercy of the team drafting you.

Seems kinda high that in 10 rounds which is a little over 300 players selected that all but 4 signed. Where did u get that info from 34?
I saw where in first round money last guy selected signed for $2.3 million. It goes way down after the first couple rounds as far as money.
I know my grandson was selected a few years ago in 6th round and it was around $250k give or take.

Everybody drafted in the 10th round last year was either a 4yr college guy or a HS player.

They signed from as little as 1K to a high of 1.8MM....the slots are there but they arent adhered to at all once the bargaining goes on.

You can look thru each round here:

For example- our very own Dakota Jordan signed in the 4th round for $2MM- but his slot was $625K

Travis Smith of Kentucky- the guy some you raised hell about Lemon signing because he was a draft risk- signed for $462K in the 15th round

Dirtbag got over 400K in the 18th round

I never heard of Travis Smith, but good for him. I guess the NIL money makes the ML teams pay up now days.

I looked up the stats for top 10 rounds over the last 11 drafts. I was amazed to read that only 47 players didn’t sign in top ten rounds for 11 drafts.

I’m a fast learner 34 and don’t you forget it! LOL

The number is usually agreed on before the pick in the Top 10 rounds.
