It May Be Time To Call In Reinforcements
Folks, it's time to get things turned around and headed in the right direction and we have one of the greatest rebuilders in the history of this sport, and a Leach disciple, at our disposal. Damn the torpedoes and the shitstorm it will cause(and boy will it cause one), but get Art Briles a gd headset and get him on the field. Get him the building with these QBs, RBs, WRs, and OL. Nice guys finish last, and it's past time to stop being nice and doing it takes to win. Will it piss some people off, absolutely. Will it cause some people to stop donating and stop attending, absolutely it will but it won't be anyone that matters. It's time to start playing the game like everyone else has done for generations. Also, if you think he's not already helping out behind the scenes then you are burying your head in the sand. But it's time to go full force with it.

That sounds good but at the same time it doesn't sound good as far as Lebby being the head coach. I would be fine if he coaches of it helps MSU.

Well he can be here while Lebby learns. This isn't the same SEC that Dan Mullen walked in to in 2009. You had time to learn on the job, Mullen also was left with a loaded roster that allowed him time to learn. He wasn't thrown head first into the fire like Lebby. I don't think people realize how bad are roster was when he inherited this team and how bad it still is. Art Briles is a master at taking crappy offenses and still being competitive. Do what Vandy did with Kill and make him Chief Consultant to the HC.

Totally agree and I'm all for it. It sucks that Lebby is taking his lumps this year. I just want to see the team improve, I want to see recruiting continue to go well, and I want to see a new defensive staff in the offseason at this point. And that needs to start now as far as team improvement goes.

Unless Briles is bringing a bunch of NIL money and more importantly, a bunch of talented players with him, this makes no sense.
IT would be a PR disaster and I don't think we get much better.
I like Lebby, the guy has proven to me that if you give him a solid offensive roster, he can put points on the board. Unfortunately, I am concerned that he misevaluated his roster and missed on some portal players. I thought our OL would be better than average. So far, it has been terrible. Not below average, terrible.
Also, defensively I'm not sure we have a single NFL player on our roster. Maybe Isaac Smith is an UDFA, but that would be it. I'm not sure it has ever been this bad and fixing a talent issue is the hardest thing to do now, especially in this new era where front seven players are expensive as hell and Fletcher Cox, Chris Jones or Jeffrey Simmons aren't walking through the door.
We are in rough shape and I'm not sure hiring a guy like Briles does anything but embarrass us, while not really helping in the W/L category.

And you may be right. But I know it won't make things worse. This is a guy that was at two schools that lost A BUNCH before he got there and he immediately got them turned around and was at a roster disadvantage the entire time. I don't really know how it embarrasses us, but so what if it does. I mean Freeze is employed and it hasn't really embarrassed Auburn. Sark is employed and it hasn't really embarrassed Texas. And they are the HCs of those programs. I'm talking about bringing him on in an advisory role and giving him a headset. We have to stop letting something like being embarrassed temporarily stop us from turning over every rock to get better. And this guy will willingly help us and probably won't take a salary. I imagine he already is helping Lebby, or at least trying to in any extent he is able to.

Ole Miss would do it in a heartbeat.

They do what it takes to win. We worry about what people may think. They don't. And somehow, it hasn't affected them. They are media darlings and everyone is talking how cool their program is.

Exactly. I think it was because we took a lot of flack for Jackie from people like Joe Paterno. Turns out Jackie was a way better person than Joe but no one mentions that.
And to your point what happened to us with Jackie? We won a ton of games and had a ton of great wins while being fun to watch.

It's that our fan base has chastised OM for so long about illegally recruiting players and most, not all but most, of our fanbase wanted to bury their head in the sand and act like we were holier than thou and would never do something like that. We still have fans to this day that believe the Chris Jones recruitment was above board and legal. I say all that to say that we still to this day have fans that do not want to do what it takes to win. They want to win the Morality Olympics. I mean they make the argument that we need to recruit kids that want to be at Mississippi State and our loyal to Mississippi State. 98% of athletes that go play sports at college do not give a rats ass about the university before they commit. And that was before NIL. They went there because that gives them the best chance to succeed and make it to the next level, or they love the coach or the scheme, or maybe they like the chance to play against the best of the best. Nowadays you add NIL to that equation. You have to do what it takes to win. If you have to operate in the grey area to do it then so be it.

And with that attitude we will be Sawnee in ten years time.

It's a miracle we aren't already. And that's the point I'm making, by some miracle we are still in a position to pull ourselves out of this and get serious about winning. But that starts with each and every fan, they have to make a decision on if Mississippi State winning is important enough to them for them to pitch in where they can as it relates to NIL, buy in to talking points put out by the university, understand that we need to take risks(like possibly hiring Art Briles in some capacity) and not be the morality police. ROW IN THE SAME DIRECTION.
Also, can a certain two members of our media either have their press credentials revoked or stop shitting on the team every 5 seconds. I get things aren't good and it's ok to point that out but I mean holy shit, Hadad and Faulk are the anti Mcready or Yancy. All they do is talk down about Mississippi State, which is funny since covering Mississippi State is what pays for their lives so they're not delivering pizzas or covering Amory vs Nettleton on a Friday night for $50.

And they are the first ones that want to fire the coach because we are losing. They somehow think a new coach will win with the crappy talent that we now have.

Bo made a veiled swipe at Hadad and Faulk this morning. Basically said they aren't helping the situation and making it worse. He lumped them in with 'certain posters on Sixpack".

I know now why our offense looked so good in the Spring Game!**** This is Shira/Croom bad, on and off the field. Hell?, (not Hail) State!

I personally know that we have been buying cars for recruits and tractors for family members since the early '70's and my late SuperDog Dad helped. However, we have never been good at cheating and got caught a lot over the years!****

Heck I was one hoping we'd actually bring him on from the start. There's a group of people here that would rather us be in the sun belt before that'd happen though. Heck they may even rather we not field a team.

We did it before but Jackie got us organized and taught them how to do it and play the game. Mullen came in and updated the way we did it. You are right about us not being great at it. We were very organized in the mid 90s, but got sloppy. That led to the demise of Jackie. We sucked at first under Mullen but got rolling after the Will Redmond fiasco with DeVinner and figured out the new way to do things.

They'd rather us play with Academy players because one of them knows Johnny Stephens granddad from the Rotary Club and he's a good boy that loves Mississippi State and "just needs a chance". Nevermind the fact that he is 5'10 170 and runs a 5.3. There's not many Cameron Lawrence's or Addison Lawrence's or Ben Beckwith's out there anymore that played Academy ball AND can play at the SEC level but the NFL level. And hell, even Cam wasn't IN LOVE with Mississippi State. We just had a leg up because Addison was already here on the roster.
