So what is your prediction on what our average rushing yards per game this year?
-
More than last year. Bold of me I know, I'm here all week

I hope it is north of 180 in sec play. That plus a somewhat functional passing game and a solid defense is a recipe for being in striking distance against the big boys in the 4th quarter. That being said, I would take 150 all day long in sec games. Our non divisional totals will obviously skew the final average.
A solid run game and stout defense was the recipe ten years ago and it will still work today if you can keep the defense honest with the pass.

With the RB stable we have I think 180 a game is very possible.
-
350, Will gonna be a beast average 100 by himself.
-
SEC play - 200 yds
Others - 260 yds
All games - 220 yds
-
For the wishbone to be effective you need 300+ per game.

Yes, the wishbone was known for its use of 11 personnel and 45-50% pass rate like Barbay will use

200 rushing, 350 passing since there will be no more dropping 8 with at least 10 passes over 25 yds.

Top half of the SEC in total offense averaged 400 or better- bottom half was under 400 yards. I'll give us 420 ypg so should be looking at about 170 rushing/250 yards passing

It may be hard to believe but this run scheme will really open up the passing game and if Will can have the patience to wait for the routes to develop then this may be attainable. I can see TULU running wild on the slants. Or the Safeties have to come up to protect against that then that opens up the longer routes. In theory at least. And I forgot about the TE running open keeping the LBs from blitzing.

That would be great, for MSU since we have never done that traditionally. I’m hoping for around 5500 total yards. Whether that’s 2000/3500 or 2500 rushing/3000 passing I don’t really care.
With offensive numbers these days 5000 total yards barely gets you in the top 40. We’ve done it the past 3 seasons under Leach with a heavy passing game but people now are hoping we can do it more traditionally. It remains to be seen.
For those skeptics who think it can’t be done, Mississippi for comparison had over 6400 total yards last year with their run heavy offense. LSU and Arkansas started off shaky with their offenses and both exceeded 6000 yards.

The most successful offenses pass to get ahead and run to stay there. You do not have to run to open up the passing game. A QB has to be a little more patient on deeper routes to develop due to the fact that the WR's have to get downfield. Safeties will not have to protect against slants because LB's and NB's will already be there. Slants work best against man coverage and if we run enough of them unless their DC is a complete dolt they will start to run some type of zone coverage to defend it.
If we are wise we will run high percentage pass plays to start with to get our players in the flow and then run play action and deep shots at least 1-2 times per drive and then use constraint plays on third down based on down and distance. We should also try to run some type of gadget play early to try to swing momentum- the flea flicker is my personal favorite. Once we hopefully get a lead then we can run on a tired defense and mostly run out the clock. I'm being very general of course.
