They want to keep their jobs. I think at this point people are becoming knowledgeable enough that going against the odds like that is no longer the "safe" play as far as perception. But people aren't knowledgeable enough yet where doing something against the odds like that really hurts you the way it should.
Still amazing to me that coaches didn't figure out on their own that moving the ball from their 40 to the opponents 25 isn't a big of enough gain to give up on keeping possession.

Defenses have also caught on to the hard counts and putting people in motion but, you're really not going for it. Haven't seen anyone's D jump offside in this situation in quite some time.

My first thought was you got to go for that.
It's not like their defense was really stopping Pitt.
When they didn't go for it I knew they'd lose.

Ed Ogeron went for it in that situation in the Egg Bowl and it was the final straw that cost him his job at OM.
I thought it was smart for him to do at the time even though it did not work out for OM. Also, I was very pleased with the outcome.

He was in his own territory when he made that call. That's a little different. Odds are a punt could be downed inside the 20 in that situation depending on the punter and other factors.

If he'd gone for it with the lead and failed, everyone would bitch that "with the lead you punt, pin them deep". You absolutely know I'm right. Speaking of pu$$ies... try some Vagasil next time you watch a game.

I think you're talking a 4 yd difference. Not gonna matter with a good punter.
