ESPN drops Newman to #2
Not that it makes any difference, but Malik Newman is second behind Ivan Rabb out of Oakland in the 2015 class.

I gave up on him a few years ago. Have we gotten back in the running for landing him? Anyone willing to give an estimate on our chances?
-
If Ray can continue to improve and show Newman that if he were to come here we would be a legitimate NCAA tourney team then we have a shot, if he feels like he would be the only weapon then he's off to Lexington
-
He's about 98% Wildcat. Only reason we are at 2% is because Ray has been working his ass off with him

Just like so many thought we had a chance at Humphrey

You gave up on his when he was in the 8th grade?

There is a chance here, but I think every rational fan would agree its most likely Kentucky

Will be interesting with Kentucky. Didn't even make the NCAAs last year and I don't see them making any sort of deep run this year. This one and done stuff is getting sort of hit and miss up there.

Yes, back when there was no way he was coming here. Maybe it was because they didn't like Stansbury or something but I recall everyone saying he wasn't coming here. Guess things have changed by 2%.

Paul Jones has it at 50/50 .His track record is just a little better than yours. This is a got to have for Ray or people will be all over his ass. Before you start I think he is doing a great coaching job.

Being a Bama legacy from Hoover is a little different than being an MSU legacy from Jackson...

This one is quite a bit different, obviously.
We definitely have a shot here, and it's more than 2%. There is some general optimism surrounding our chances with people who have some inside sources. Obviously if I had to put chances on it, I'd still say we don't get him but we're certainly in the game and have more time to work on him. As someone else said, the more UK struggles, the tougher I think it will be for his dad to sign off on that.
I think Newman is the kind of kid who is more built for college than the NBA, but he's obviously one-and-done. But from what I've seen, I'd let Ray develop him for a year before I would Calipari.

HAHHAHAAHAH Calipari is the only coach in the country to have a number 1 and 2 pick in the same draft. Gonna have to use a different argument than that.

I'd be surprised if our odds are actually 50/50 but I bet they are a LOT better than 2%.

Not saying ray can develop better than calipari, but kentucky's lottery picks would've been lottery picks straight outta hs

He's a really good player. Not convinced he's the first or second best player in the country.
Like MSU has had great success getting legacy players to come here.

Maybe if we start a "Sherill Bank" and put alumni and boosters on the board..... that should help with getting big time recruits****
