SBW severe weather threat.
Don't shoot the messenger but this is looking like this weekend could be rough weather wise. Still too early to nail down specifics such as timing, but with a lot of folks in town all weekend keep it in mind. Below is the latest statement from the NWS. What I didn't include is next Wednesday may also be interesting, but one event at a time.
Modest instability juxtaposed
with strong low- and deep-layer wind shear and impressive
cyclonically curved hodographs will be supportive of a
potentially significant severe weather episode Saturday into
Sunday with all modes of severe weather possible. Went ahead and
expanded the slight risk in the HWO/graphics to include all of the
area and its likely that the threat will need to be upgraded if
the current model trends persist

The million dollar question.
Do you think we can get all of the baseball games in?

Friday looks good, but Saturday and Sunday I can't say. Latest GFS has it coming through this area starting about 7:00pm Saturday night and going into early Sunday, but timing can and will change. Won't have a good handle on timing until probably Thursday.
-
Yep Sat afternoon to Sunday before noon will be the key times looks like.
-
Day 6 outlooks by the SPC usually aren't good things
Question really is do we want to play 3 this weekend as a program? If we do it's got the be either single Friday with a DH starting around 11 on Saturday or a DH Friday starting around 3 and a single Saturday starting around 1 pm
-
Damn this could screw up everything for Saturday.
-
Wonder what this will do to the Spring Game? I hope they don’t cancel it. I was looking forward to going.

I wish when these cold fronts would come through that they would just keep on going. When they hang up and then drift back as a warm front, it just usually adds more fuel to the fire.

Severe weather is never good when there are a bunch of tents and motor homes concentrated in one area. This is the time of the year that has the highest severe potential though. I've only been to one SBW that I remember, and I seem to recall it was clear and the temp was around 90.

I know things can change 10+ times between now and Saturday, and hopefully it will, but it doesn't look like it now. WPC is forecasting a Low from or off the Texas coast will have to come up a Warm Front from about Natchez into Northeast MS in order to kick the system on out on Sunday morning. They are also forecasting this as a Severe Heavy Rain Event.

Not sure how it was in Starkville, but we had just short of 3" of rain Sunday and yesterday. This has been a really wet winter/spring ... all we need is another "Severe Heavy Rain" event.

Not sure how trustworthy this is but my radar app showed I had 8" of rain from around 5 yesterday until the storms moved out sometime after midnight last night. I've been living at this place since '96 and today was the first time I've ever seen evidence that water ran across my driveway at the ditch by the road. It's a deep ditch with about a 4 or 5 foot culvert. I'm about 2 miles east of campus.

Sunday weather in pm looks better at present than sat.
-
SPC has upgraded Saturday to a rare day 4 enhanced risk. Not to overhype, but this could be a potentially serious weather event.
-
Im guessing a DH on Friday and then either an early game Saturday before the front comes through or a late game Sunday eve after it's passed. BUT, like SVG and Scooba say, contingent on timing.

Best guess for Starkville now is Saturday evening and night.
