This umpires zone is all over the place. Can someone check and see if he has any connections to TN? Call strike on Hatcher and now this inning is a questionable. Given you have to expand the zone as a hitter, it was not a strike.

We're gonna 17 around and lose this if we're not careful.

Our offense is anemic with all the fly balls and pop outs.

A whole lot more if we do not start sitting offspeed early in the count. Every LH hitter is getting offspeed first pitch. Most RH hitters are too. At some point you?d think we would realize that and start hammering this guy. But hey, I?m not the coach.

Never said he was but if the zone is not consistent, it?s difficult to eliminate pitches as a hitter when the ball comes out of the pitchers hand. You can tell ball/strike almost every pitch by release point, if the umpires zone is consistent. If it?s nit consistent it throws off what a hitter has been trained to do and makes you less productive. That?s why this game has 3 runs right now.
Eta. The release point from top of the zone to bottom of the zone, when it reaches the plate, is only a few inches. As a hitter you should be picking this up as other hitters are batting. Then when you hit you can know ball/strike almost before the ball is released based on release point. Then all you have to do if release point says strike is determine pitch

Seriously though we're very slow to adjust in games. If the approach we have going in works and we score a lot, then the O takes the foot off the gas and they catch up late. If the opening approach doesn't work we take 5+ innings to adjust, usually we don't adjust at all and if we eventually score it's because the approach happens to work in the reliever

Pathetic. 2 runs in regulation yesterday and now 1 run through 5 today. LSU's Sunday guy had us shutout until the 9th. Our offense is really struggling right now.
