    Deonte Anderson Scrimmage stats 8/12/23

hailstate.com reporting this stat line from last night: five tackles for loss including a pair of sacks and a forced fumble. Had to read it twice to make sure I read it correctly. That?s pretty dadgum impressive.

Anderson is a redshirt sophomore defensive end from Miami, FL.

Brock and arnette keep hinting that we may pull a line backer or safety and go four man front if it gets the best 11 on the field. Anderson may be the reasoning behind that. Had two seniors ahead of him on the depth chart when camp started. And these stats could have been against back ups but that?s still really eye opening. You pretty much need to be in the offensive huddle listening to play calls to have 5 tackles for loss in one scrimmage.

That's the trouble with scrimages, is Anderson unreal or is our OT god awful? I'll choose optimism in the absence of evidence to the contrary

It's the same OL from last year. I expect them to be a year better, I'm not worried about it.

Anderson has come into his own, looked fantastic last night. Bringing David Turner back was one of Arnett's best decisions.

We will be multiple this season with a lot of 4 man fronts. We don't have an Edge guy that can go like Wheat but we can adjust and be good. Looked very fast on defense last night.

Anderson being a legit pass rusher would be an amazing development for us.

I love that Arnett and Brock aren't afraid to switch up the scheme to get the best guys on the field.

    A 4-2-5 of:

    DE- Anderson
    DT- Crumedy
    DT- Pickering
    DE- Russell

    LB-Johnson
    LB-Watson

    CB- Richardson
    CB- Nicholson/Furdge
    S- Banks
    S- Ellington/Albert
    S- Preston

    would be salty.

Our front 7 will be as good as we've seen since 2018 and likely have as much depth

I would be fine taking out Preston at S and using John Lewis at LB.

It is sounding to me like on top of going with 4-2 up front that we have great depth with the DL and LBs.
    Death penalty or bust!!!***

Depends on the matchup. But being able to go 4-3 / 4-2 / 3-3 at will is a great thing.

The biggest thing that worries me about our defense is stopping mobile QB's like Daniels. If we kind find ways to contain those we will be outstanding on defense. I think we're going to be very good against the run. And I think the secondary will be fine. Have to find ways to create havoc and losing Forbes, Wheat and Charlton is going to be tough. BUT I think we may have some young guys that can step up and come into their own. We need Egg Bowl Bookie Watson to show up every weekend.

Outside of scrimmages players compete against each other daily in drills, etc. He's going against all of the OL linemen at some point and also rotating with different teams on defense. The coaches assessments are based on everything not just scrimmages.

That secondary is suspect. At best, unproven

We will be a top 5 in the league defense, but we aren't going to be 2018 good. We will be much better on offense than we were in 18 though.
