How is Lemonis working the portal?

If Hines and Jordan are being courted during the season, what is our staff doing to find new portal transfers? Are they just waiting to see who enters the portal, or are they being aggressive like other teams are?

I would bet the best pitcher on every Sun Belt or Big South team is good enough to make this roster and would like to play in the SEC. We just need to be asking.

That can be a mixed bag but we didn't have much luck last year. Just look at Gartman. We did get Dohm but he's been Jekyll and Hyde. Better work on his mechanics or do something to get him some movement on that fb or he'll continue to struggle in conference games.

Looking at national results on transfer pitchers. The whole process is a mixed bag of results.

2 Paul Skenes RHP LSU (A+)
3 Hurston Waldrep RHP Florida (B)
    6 Juaron Watts-Brown RHP Oklahoma State (B-) - 207 OBA, a LBSU kid
7 Thatcher Hurd RHP LSU (F) +7 ERA
8 Jake Eddington RHP Missouri State (C)
10 Ryan Vanderhei RHP TCU (D)
13 Kale Davis RHP Oklahoma (D)
20 James Hitt LHP Oklahoma (A) - A lightly used TTU guy becomes really good for OU
21 Ross Dunn LHP Arizona State (B-)
24 Chandler Murphy RHP Missouri (B)
    25 Troy Wansing LHP Texas A&M (D)
26 Janzen Kiesel RHP Oklahoma State (F)
28 Mikey Tepper RHP Liberty (B) - He became a Saturday guy for Liberty with decent numbers. He would be killed still in the SEC.
29 Christian Little RHP LSU (F)
31 Landon Gartman RHP Mississippi State (B-)
46 Jace Kaminska RHP Nebraska (B+) - this is the type of guy MSU should chase, had 150 innings under his belt at Wichita State. Stayed solid
48 Michael Massey RHP Wake Forest (A+) - I guess the WF coaching is really good, this dude was just alright at Tulane
49 Blake Hely RHP Notre Dame (B+) - A good player for many years at Davidson, 180 innings, stayed good at ND. MSU type of player
50 Xavier Rivas LHP Ole Miss (C) - Not good, not Horrible
XX Nate Dohm RHP Mississippi State (A) - He has been good for MSU
XX Tyler Davis LHP Mississippi State (F) - He should have been good, his VCU numbers were solid. Maybe he is not healthy?

What I would say...guys like Skenes and Waltrep are 1st round picks and stayed good. Then you have major prospects with damaged arms or heads, like Hurd and Little, they sucked.

I think MSU should go collect 3 or 4 solid performers like Blake Helly and Jace Kaminska. Dudes had lots of innings and experience. Grad and upper-class transfers. Solid players generally stay solid.

Nate Dohm is not an A unless you are grading MSU pitchers on the Curve and everybody else straight up.😳

I might be, but you got a kid from Ball State to the SEC. He leads the team in appearances, top-3 innings pitched, and ERA (for the guys with significant innings). His ERA would be lower, except he has to be maximized and extended. Near 4:1 K to BB ratio. He is the best in the Pen (Until Nixon got healthy). He has Started, Middle Relieved and Closed. He did all this while pitching for the Fox.

I consider that an A for value to his team and difficult circumstance.

If had transferred from Florida State, taken 1/3 of the NIL budget, and pitched for Butch ... then a B-.

The guy couldn't even sign a damn catcher last year without having one on campus really.

    Cosigned.

Dohm is serviceable. He looks better than he is due to the staff he is on. Tallest midget, if you will.

This is what pisses me off. They had seen him in practice everyday and in a few games for years and said- "yeah, he can be our catcher next season". Terrible eval

Meh- schools do that BS all over the country. Even in HS. Hines showed Alford who the captain was earlier this season.
