Yeah, he saw what 2022 was, and as a baseball coach himself, recognized what Lem's team had returning, a lot of youth, etc. Probably saw the fall ball scrimmages and realized what a cluster was coming in the spring.

It's funny to look back at these Cohen hires. His first hires (Moorhead, Lemonis, Penson) were unmitigated disasters. But his second hires (Mike, Purcell, and Jans) seem to be really great hires. I think it just goes to him learning how to be an AD. There's still some things that he is painfully unequipped at, marketing and fundraising, but he's getting better some of the bigger picture things.
I don't think he would've been fired when he had to make a move on Lemonis, but his seat would've definitely been warm.
