Numbers Analysis on lead-off walks

So after 20 games, we have led off an inning 29 times by issuing a Base on Balls, which has resulted in 17 of those free passes scoring a run - 59% of the time, our lead-off walk results in a run scored.

Additionally, having allowed a total of 125 Base on Balls has resulted in 44 runners eventually scoring (this includes the 17 RS from the lead-off BBs). So the BBs Foxhall's pitching philosophy is enabling/creating ultimately come around to score 35% of the time.

And yes, since my favorite past-time of watching Bulldog Baseball has turned into a complete clownshow, I've got enough time on my hands to run these numbers (egah!!!).

Walks are mental. It what we taught kids when I coached high school and I firmly believe it. These kids have thrown tens of thousands of pitches and were good enough to be on our roster.

You walk 1? Ok that happens. You walk 5 or 7? You are mentally weak. Which scares me because Lemonis recently has looked very weak in his responses and I'm concerned we have a mentally weak baseball team. Add the garbage defense and I'm very concerned our program is just mentally not tough.

And that's 2 years off a championship. I just don't get it.

Wow, it started off bad for us thru the first 12 games (thru Cal in Friscoe TX) as we only scored 5 times off of 14 leadoff BBs (36%) but then we lead off an inning 13 times with a BB and managed to bring them around 12 times to score (really made opposing team pay for issuing a free pass to start an inning).

Overall, after 20 games we have lead off an inning with 27 BBs and scored these runners 17 times (63%). On the season, of the 147 TOTAL free passes we have gained, we have scored 51 times (35%).

Confucious asked about HBP: I found 22 HBP where we scored 9 times on those yielding a total of 60 runs on 169 total free passes (36% scoring success).

Yea measuring the lead off walk stats both ways I don't see a difference.

But it was clear as day to anyone yesterday that Gartman didn't need to be out there in the 5th. I was chatting with a buddy while watching the game saying how dumb it was and he was going to walk the first guy and then we pull him. He agreed and said if you're gonna have that short of a leash why even bother?

Then we realized he had a longer leash.

And then two runs scored without and out.

And he was still out there.

I turned it off. Went back to losing college basketball bets.
