Advanced stats from Shot Quality quantify and confirm what we've seen all year in basketball. For those that aren't familiar, Shot Quality calculates an expected final score based on advanced analytics for each shot by both teams in a game.

Based on their metrics, State should win last night's game 70% of the time. Pitt had an especially lucky outcome on how many 3s they hit (+8 points from 3s over expected), which was obvious watching the game.

State lost 9(!) games that Shot Quality predicted us to win based on the actual shots in the game by both teams, including 6 of 7 of the SEC losses early in the year.

On one hand, it's brutal that we lost that many games that we 'should have' won, and it shows how truly horrific our shooting was, even though we consistently got good looks. On the other hand, if Jans can plug in 2-3 shooters and keep our defensive quality, watch out-- he consistently schemed great looks on offense all year, we just couldn't knock them down.
