RocketDawg is not old enough to remember Ron Greene left after one season to go to his alma mater, Murray State.

This is true about Ron Greene, but Bob Tyler was the main reason he left Starkville. One big mistake making Tyler AD back in the day.

So I was not around at that time, what is the story there? Was it a Cohen/Schaefer two alpha dogs thing or something else?

Tyler didn't care much about the other sports as he was still the HC in football as well. He did some pretty crazy things, he thought he was above everyone and created a mess in the athletic department. I have a friend who had lunch with Tyler years ago, he told him he made mistakes he wished he hadn't while at Msu.

This is true Tyler was a complete ass. Hooker later played with the globe trotters i believe. I will never forget Hooker went to the opposing team's bench during a timeout. he stood in the huddle a few seconds with his arms around an opposing player. We he walked off the coach went nuts. good times!
