    Tomorrow (If we play): Loftin

A little surprised we aren't going to see Pico start.

Maybe Pico is hurt??? That's the only thing that makes sense since we haven't seen him yet.

I think that's possible. I think they want that. But I'm glad they are slowly bringing them along. Both had their struggles in the preseason. Both have command issues. Not control, command. Even loftin the other day did. He just picked off the guy he walked. Not big misses but need to hone it in. They certainly have the stuff. Both have better stuff than Elliot at ole miss. Eliot was more polished than loftin as a hs pitcher. I can't compare him to Lo didn't see him in hs.

Kind of felt it was time to see Loftin. Hope he can come through for us. ULM, IMO is better than VMI. We can't keep making the defensive errors we've been making.

I've watched us in fall and spring- our defense was well above avg. couple of bad throws by forsythe and Alford probably got a case of the tight ass. He's a really good defender. Hines looks out of sorts. Goes after balls in the 4 hole that he shouldn't. Poor communication etc. that's practiced on all the time. He's athletic enough to work it out but needs to pick it better too.

I could foresee both of them being in the weekend rotation by the end of SEC play. Going to have to take some lumps between now and then with Hunt in the rotation. Gartman could definitely play the Houston Harding role in a best case scenario while we leave Cade Smith in the rotation.

I think we have enough of a bullpen to not overexpose Loftin and Loo. I think Hunt could help out coming from the pen more than as a starter. Nixon, Dohm, Hardin, Ynetema, Davis, and Forsythe- that's something to work with.

I'll go at this backwards, I like true pieces of the pen. As you stated. Lem
Learned last year not having a pen was death wish. Thus Dohm being a pen guy. Plus I think he's more suited for the pen. I agree about hunt. He's more a middle reliever guy and can help us there. Remember, last fall, meaning prior to 22 season he was legit in the fall. I really think sat start he was pressing and had snakes in his head about last year. Now whether he can get past that I don't know. But he has enough stuff. As far as both fr being in rotation, stuff wise yes. But from what I saw preseason, I wouldn't have either one in it........ at PRESENT.... I think davis is the guy that is most suited, along w loftin. Loftin doesn't trust his stuff but his change is major league caliber right now. ...... so in long no big disagreements, but need a guy to step up.

I liked what I saw from Gartman. He looks like a reliable starter and him having four pitches makes up for not having mid 90’s velo. Dohm coming in behind Gartman would probably be a nice combination. Hopefully the freshmen stay healthy and progress to the point they can be effective in the SEC at some point this season.

Yeah. I've seen a lot of years on a lot of teams where a freshman comes in and is very promising but by the end of the year they are out of gas. It's really hard to go from a high school schedule of what? 40 games if you go deep in the playoffs in Mississippi to a 56 game regular season schedule plus however many in the postseason against the most mature competition they have faced in the brightest spotlight they have ever been in. Not sure how deep Loftin and Loo go this week but with our pen if they stay healthy we can limit those two and not overexpose them. But need to build them up in the meantime.

Gartman is good. The kind of guy that you need on the team that gets outs and eats innings and can start or relieve if needed.

He has some swag. No doubt. He needs to find a little cut on his two seam fastball though.
