The elephant in the room on challenge for OC search is

that CZA likely wants to change or tweak what we do on O but we don't have the personnel to do it fully in year 1. Any new proven OC knows that and doesn't want to walk into that situation.

Another thought is CZA probably hasn't spent a great deal of time thinking about his own O philosophy but he knows he doesn't want the 95 version of ai raid and is searching himself.

CZA feels the pressure to win in his first big chance as HC.

We are gonna have to find the next good up and commer OC just like CZA is. I think we can get it done. Next year will be a transition year but our D will win us enough games to go bowling. Get the right OC and we can have a great year.

Good news is it will be hard for the offense to be worse vs sec teams than it was this year.

And as pointed out in another thread - CZA is an unknown as a HC. That makes it hard to bring some one in who isn't very familiar with him. He has been around a long time or with many teams, so he doesn't have a deep network of former colleagues to reach out to or who can speak of up for him.

That's why I think we may end up with Mason Miller or someone similar.

I see miller has OC experience at a lower level. Anyone know if his offense is leach/mumme style or different?

Not saying Miller would be a bad OC, but of we thought that highly of his potential why didn't we name him the OC for the bowl game?

If he's the OC, we've certainly missed on a few guys. No way around that

If we go with Miller, we have missed on more than a few guys. Our two WR coaches are now OCs in G5 schools. And from my eyes on Monday Spurrier?s play calling was just fine. The plays were there all day, the QB execution was not. We literally won that game by an inch of green grass on a 4th down high throw that our receiver made a great catch and an even greater 1 foot landing!

We need a Respected OC/QB coach who can get Rogers Head on straight and beat the fear out of him, or is willing to play another QB ahead of a record breaking senior.

And to some degree, in Will?s defense, our Oline coach has got to get those front 5 more consistent in protection.

You are being awful generous on that inch. Looked to me more like the width of a sheet of paper. Nevertheless, it was 6 points. And a really big 6 at that.

Yep. We can offer a lot of money and autonomy. That's big. But not much else to offer when it comes to recruiting Power 5 offensive coordinators.

I think I would be pleased with Bryan Ellis, OC, at Georgia State. I just don't want our offense to go back to a run first offense. I still like Phil Longo's philosophy with the moderniized air raid concept. If I have to pass the ball every down in a game I will or if I have to run the ball every down I will. Take what the defense gives you and score points.

May be pretty good insight. Just hope Arnett is tough enough to weather this transition...and it's got to be tough for him.

I don't know where that rumor is coming from either. And that's not from a source, that's from me. We didn't give Mason a guaranteed spot on the staff and people think he's gonna be the OC?? Really?? And I like mason. Hope it works out for him to stay. But not likely I don't think. But still possible.

Heard at the basketball game (brutal to watch that "offense", as usual. No chance to get an OC from that staff.**), that Zach is holding off on an OC until he attends the Coaches' Convention. Struck fear into my heart, as I had a flashback of that was where Dan found Sirmon!!!!! Find the right guy ASAP! Hail State!

True but also where he ditched Sirmon a year later to trade for Grantham with Louisville.

We have a first year head coach with very few contacts who has a quarterback returning that would not be able to run almost any offense in the country outside what he has been running and ZA wants to get away from that offense. All that combines for a shit show of an OC search.

Are there not going to be coaches getting fired next week in the NFL? Maybe there will be a great NFL assistant coach, with great ability, looking for an opportunity like a SEC O coordinator? Who knows if that person could be a gold nugget.
