Playing Sawyer Robertson every game for even a series wasn't going to magically make him better. The only thing playing him ever did is validate what others were saying about him in practice- which was he isn't ready.

Then it makes perfect sense keeping rogers in games in the win column instead of improving a backup. I’m not talking about a series, I’m talking about quarters. Todd you are one I think really grasp things but I’ve seen a HS destroyed by that thinking, and If Rogers goes down “Needlessly”......we shall see. Maybe you are right but I don’t think so.

100%
It's crazy to me why Rogers even played a snap in the 2nd half vs the doorknob team. Literally no reason for it
Walk like the King or walk like you don't care who the King is

This is not true. Game experience makes players better. That's not even up for debate. Playing Rogers after halftime vs ETSU was ridiculous. Players need game reps to get better.

Times may have changed, but who was the coach we had that brought in the backup QB the third series of the game no matter what, Jackie?

Maybe the most frustrating thing I've seen since auburn 3-2. It was stupid. Kicking rocks stupid

Zavion is a potential difference maker. Him and Tulu need 15 touches a game on offense. I believe he would have been better off in this offense, and with the way our team rotates guys, I figured Zavion would have had an opportunity to thrive.

Also, if the kid knew he was getting a series here and there, he would prepare much harder during the week. That is a fact.
I said it before the game, Sawyer deserved every snap of the ETSU game. Will could have used the week off to rest his arm to be able to throw it 17 yards down field.

High school is completely different than college. Especially with the portal.
Don't forget our starter needs reps too.

We handled the ETSU the same way the vast majority of coaches I have followed handle that type of a game. I think in college you should play your QB in a game like that for three quarters while heavily rotating the other players on both sides of the ball. The reason being I wouldn't want to tell my starting QB to take the rest of the day off and then a QB like Sawyer comes in and struggles and then all of a sudden the back up defense is out there getting worn down and a couple of INT's later and then it's a 28-14 game with a quarter to play. Then all of a sudden we're on "upset alert" on ESPN. Nope. Go get 2-3 more TD's and stomp on their throat and give the fourth quarter to the back up QB's and walk-ons and freshmen.
We handled that game the right way. Should have been 56-0 and all the QB's and players got reps.

Jackie. And it seemed to always lead to a three and out and killed momentum. I used to HATE when he did that.

I mean, Sawyer starting wasn't going to magically make him know the plays all of a sudden. I think he would have been so bad we would have been forced to play Will for three quarters anyway.

There is a lot more to playing WR than yall realize especially for Leach. It is why Tulu hasnt been our best one. Thomas struggled with the mental part its why he was PR specialist. Same with Hargrove

Other SEC schools are pulling these guys away for a reason and its because they can play.
We may replace them adequately or we may not- but losing talent hurts. We better send someone to check in on Whiskey Pirate. He's probably on suicide watch
We missed Polk. We didn't miss Malik Heath:

We might miss Zavion but he didn't do much here at WR. We might miss DJ but his stats are replaceable.

So is Zavion taking his name out of the portal? I was told by someone on Twitter last night that he may or may not transfer now. Anybody else heard this?

I got chastised in a game thread for asking why our backups didn't at least get in late in the game. Every game snap matters to a backup. Just getting on the field with a crowd during a game helps a little.

It was a terrible strategy. But it's real simple. The answer is somewhere in between. Backups need game reps. Even garbage time reps gets them on the field in front of a crowd.

Sawyer Robertson will get his chance in the spring to prove he is the man. My theory is that Rogers had some issues to work out and Leach felt he needed to be in there for whatever length of time he was.
I've watched Leach coach since 2000 at Texas Tech. After Kliff Kingsbury started 3 years, BJ Symmons, a senior appeared after sitting on the bench 3 years. The next year, walk-on senior Sonny Cumbie got the job.
At Washington State, he got Gabe Gabrud to transfer in but unknown Anthony Gordon won the job.
So I am not so sure Rogers will start next year. If he does, he'll have to earn the role.
I am more worried about left tackle and hope Percy Lewis evolves like we hope.
