Miss State and WR's drafted to the NFL
From 1980-1996.....which includes 1/3 of that period in which we ran the Wingbone- we had 9 WR's drafted in the NFL draft.
Moulds
Willie Harris
Olanda Truitt
Jerry Bouldin
Fred Hadley
Louis Clark
Danny Knight
Glen Young
Mardye McDole
Zero since in 26 years. That's crazy

Wow. The NFL draft used to have more rounds, which obviously made a difference. But nobody in 26 years. Fred Ross, Makai Polk, just crazy. Hell, Tommy Stevens got drafted to try at wide receiver a few years ago. But not actual receivers

We had a few that had the ability, but we lacked the passing game. Which is what put us in a position or not being able to recruit Wrs. That ended up causing the QB recruiting to suffer. Passers are not going to a place where WRS can't catch the ball

Fred Brown made it to the NFL but he got kicked off of the team

You could really expand this to pretty much any offensive skill position and you would still only have a couple more names.

I was Mayor of my small NE MS town for about 30 years. When Tupelo had the indoor football team, the Fire Ants, I think, they had Mayor/Aldermen night and I got drafted (unlike any of our WR's for the past 26 years, unbelievable), to participate in the halftime festivities. My competition was Fred Hadley. The first race down the "field" was on tricycles where I held my own. After dismount, we then dressed in women's clothing ( I know no longer PC or maybe it is!) and raced back. Fred not only stomped me in the sprint, but taunted me half the way back. No flags. Still fast even in his coaching days, me not so much. Hail State! BTW, John Forcade was the QB of the other team.

Don't remember Willie Harris? Who was his QB?
Croom had one, I forget his name - Lance Long? He didn't even start for Croom but he made an NFL roster at WR/ST.
Agree we have not had success at offensive skill positions in the NFL but we have had talent at those positions just only good college talent - look at RB. We had some studs there but none had much of a career in NFL.

We have not had a WR drafted since I have been born

Justin Jenkins was an UFA, but played several years for the Bills and Eagles.

I thought we had a couple guys drafted in the late rounds since Mullen, but holy ****ing shit that's actually hard to do.

"Played" is a stretch. Was mostly on the practice teams when not hurt. He had a few tackles on special teams with Buffalo, but I don't think he ever had a reception.
Lance Long with 20 career receptions for 178 yards being the most successful NFL receiver since Moulds is a sad sad MSU fact.
