All-Sports Pass
The Athletic Department has announced an all-sports pass for students for $150 (sounds like a deal until you realize they are charging $25 each for Men?s and womens basketball which used to be free)

Also, buying the all-sports pass does not guarantee you a ticket to basketball games

When I was in college back in the mid 1970's students only had to show their student ID, it was free, to get into a sporting event. Now we are charging them? Don't they pay enough in tuition an other fees? Now we are nickel and diming them to death.

It's the right thing to do and should have been done 20 years ago.

ETA: Should have clicked the link. So basically a $14 discount compared to buying football, mens bb, and baseball. I'm a little worried students will choose to pay $99 for football, and then figure it's unlikely they will go to more than 8 men's basketball games and a dozen baseball games.
Going to be interesting to see if students will pay even $3 to go to women's basketball games. I'm sure they would have in Vic's later years. Seems like an inopportune time to charge for those games, unless the idea is that they think men and women's bb compete for support and they need support to go back to the men's program.

Most schools do charge the students some type of fee for passes. We probably do if you look over the costs of enrollment. USM has done it for 30 years.

Students already pay a fee for access to the Sanderson and sporting events. Something like 250 per semester. I just remember because my tuition and fees went down the year I was in Jackson to finish my degree and we received a credit because we were no longer on the main campus.

We do as well, but it is rolled into the cost for services like the sanderson center access.

Most schools have broken fees for sports out from typical "student fees" paid by everyone - mainly because most students never use them or the number of tickets available are well under the number of students enrolled. That's why they are likely now charging for tickets for the revenue sports in lieu of a fee. The kids who want the access are gonna pay regardless.

Brother that was FIFTY years ago! Things have changed since then.
Heck when I was in school just 20 years ago the football games were $3 each and the egg bowl was $5. Basketball was free.
We're competing with athletic budgets multiples of ours, we need to nickel and dime as much as possible.

A couple of my kids went to UPig. They have to pay and "sports activity fee" to be able to go to games. They also sell an upgrade version - students with the upgrade version get to enter games earlier than students that payed the lower fee so better seats and better chance of actually getting in. It's a racket.
