You need to realize that some players just grow up cheering for OM or MSU, and they usually will sign with that particular school unless they go out of state. Concerning the No. 1 player, Suntarine Perkins, we never had a chance with him. Too many OM people in his ears at Raleigh to go elsewhere. Just like Donte Moncrief and Woodrow Hamilton were always going to go to OM. Also just because a player is rated as the 10th best player or so in MS in high school football. doesn't mean that he can't end up being in the top three in college.

Nah this is fallacy. Of course the 10th best player can end up being great in college. That has nothing to do with signing the top in state, go get those guys too. Suntarine going to OM fine, but we need to get 1 or 2 of the top 3 in state every year. Go get it done, none of this I grew up an OM fan BS. 1/2 out of 3 of the top in state is not a crazy goal and should be achievable every year.

We don't have any people in Raleigh that can "get in his ears"?

We have some but unfortunately the Holder family that owns Hol-Mac always have some nice gifts for the Raleigh players and have substantial influence there.

If you don't believe Isaac Smith is top three in MS, I can't help you. He's better than Dowdell. I'll be a little surprised if Dowdell plays much at Oregon.

Smith is the best player in Mississippi. He's an unreal talent. I've seen him play since the 7th grade. From film, Perkins is a close second tho. Isaac will have the best College & Pro career than any other Mississippi recruit in '23. Bookmark this.

Still not the point. We should be locking up 1/2 of the top 3 ranked in state players every single year. ON TOP of the Isaac Smiths or whoever we believe is the best player

What if our staff did get THEIR top 3 instate players according to their own evaluations?

Then excellent job. Go get 1/2 of the top 3 ranked in state players as well. I really do not know how I can make this any clearer.

"We will have no problem in handling Kentucky."-Turfdawg67. MSU suffered a 27-17 defeat in 2022 with 225 yards in total offense.

I mean who's top 3 are we going by? The 50 recruiting services? Clarion ledger? Daily journal? Sports illustrated?
I know Isaac Smith was this staffs #1 priority instate. So we got #1. It should excite you to know that we got the #1 player according to the staff, right?

We got half of the Top 25 in-state players (based on247 and On3). With OM, Bama, LSU, AU, FSU all within a short distance we will never consistently get 1/2 of the top 3. Should it be a goal? Yes. Will it happen regularly? History has shown it won't.
"After dealing with Ole Miss for over a year," he said, "I've learned to expect their leadership to do and say things that the leadership at other Division I schools would never consider doing and to justify their actions by reminding themselves that "We're Ole Miss.""

Lol, this is like pro football fans saying a team didn't draft the best player without seeing the teams board because some moron beat writer at ESPN had them ranked lower than other guys.

Composite rankings. Some on here are too short sighted to aggregate this back to 2018 and see it is a valid concern. Like my original post said, go back and look at the past 4 years. Then go look at 2009-2018. Hell put it in a data visualization tool if you want, maybe a picture will get my point across.
Isaac Smith is an incredible get and a great job by the staff and possibly was the #1 in state ranked player by the coaches (even tho I do not buy that). We have not recruited the top 3 in state players well the past 4 years and got 0 of them this year, 0 of them last year, and 0 of them in 2021.
Both statements are true.

So according to recruiting services & not coaches evaluations? Gotcha. We will return to this thread in 2-3 years.

No. Again, because you are having trouble with comprehension. Go recruit your guys, evaluate and get your diamonds in the rough and who you think are going to be SEC guys and the rest of the in state guys. Also, get 1 to 2 of the top 3 in state players on top of that. It's really not that hard of a concept to grasp.
Why return in 2-3 years? We have the data to do it right now. The last composite top 3 in state player we got ended up being a top 5 DB to ever play here and will be an early NFL draft pick.

Do you think we should consistently be able to beat Alabama and Georgia for an in state kid?
