This bowl season will become the norm

Players don?t care to play and fans dgaf who wins. Fans may still attend depending on location.

One issue is Vegas- they can?t be happy that 3rd string qbs are playing.

I like the 24 team playoff idea. I would also like to see the shitty bowls become week 1 games. The fans would travel and the game would mean something.

One thing you mentioned will move this thing one way or the other. Vegas.

If nobody gives a shit, nobody watches(tv), nobody bets(small minority with big dollars).

The ncaa is about to **** themselves out of a lot of money.

    Who didn?t see this coming?

It?s why you don?t put a bunch of hypothetical, theocratic, academic nerds in charge of billions of dollars.

    Here?s the answer.

The NFL needs to start a farm league. Period.

Start with that premise and that premise ALONE and see in your mind how many problems it solves for the NCAA.

But of course that won?t happen. It costs money. And why pay for a start up when you got one for free.

There?s not a university president past or present that shouldn?t have the word whore stamped on their forehead.

Don’t get me wrong. This is the world we live in. I don’t like it. I didn’t create it. I think it’s wrong. But, by God, if this is it, I want to win. And I fully endorse any means necessary to do just that. **** the world. I’m not going to let it grind me down.

Fans care and always will if their teams are winning. Players opting out if the season isn't a success and a playoff game is the new norm. Unless it's the Qb that team should be fine.

Sure has been a ton of great games. Opt outs are so overblown. We had two that wouldn't have changed a damn thing against Texas Tech. That's how most teams are in these lower bowls. Pitt/Mich St took a big hit, but that's about it really.

There are a lot of great games every weekend in the regular season. There would be a lot of great games in a 24-team playoff. The bowl season isn't special in that regard.

Entire teams have opted out. Multiple teams.

And transfers is another thing that waters it down. Guys get in the portal and don't play in bowl games. I don't have a huge issue with it, but it does impact bowl games.

That's Covid world though. That's eventually going to end. I'm fine with it. Love seeing SEC teams lose, except for us. That hasn't been the norm.

Is it? None of the teams who opted out were down as low as we were against Georgia last year (43). They all could've played.

And if teams keep trying it, conferences will eventually step in because it costs them money

One thing all of the commercialization/corruption of amateur athletics has brought about in college football.......parity.....at least for this years bowl games. I see a lot of parity. It may be the transfer portal. Pac 12 , big ten, sec, big 12....they all look pretty even so far.

Exactly. When SEC fans start checking out the money will fizzle.

Aggie wasn't Covid. They cancelled 10 days before their game. They didn't have a qb

The College Gameday crew were discussing it this a.m. Herbie was the most vocal saying that players didn't love the game like players used too. He's absolutely right. Like someone else said, the game has been corrupted. It'll never be the same.

If our elections, our health policy, our congress, trade policies.......everything has become corrupted and untrustworthy........why shouldn’t college athletics become corrupted as well ?

Opt outs are shitty. Covid is even shittier bc of the media.

Motivation is def a problem for these bowl games and all the portal and NIL has done is given some of these kids a chance to show who they really are. It works for some, Makai Polk for example but when you have starters getting in the portal it shows you you have a major issue. Tennessee lost its best LB to Bama simply bc he wanted to bail out. There has to be some form of accountability for transferring. Same with coaches. You should not be able to leave your school before your season is finished. They do not help the argument leaving the way they do. Just shows most people are always gonna be out for number 1.

The reason bowl motivation is so down is bc the fans give way more of a shit about winning and losing than some of the kids do.

As I've said before the bowls will start to give bigger name players NIL deals and then life will go on.

Maybe. I think that adding more playoff games may be detrimental to this 👆🏼, though. Once a player has proven himself in the regular season and has received a draft grade, I don?t see agents/parents/players risking injury to play more games, even for some NIL money.

Since last year did not count I figured since everyone who played last season will have 6 seasons to play, we have about another three years of Super Seniors and many of them will in the portal.

It's a bunch of horseshit. Herbie was blaming video games - which have been around for 40 years now. If you ever played sports, you know motivation is a fickle thing when you have nothing on the line. Players haven't changed. You have hard workers and you have slackers. You have good leaders and cancers. Some days it comes together - some days it all goes to shit.

Y'all remember that Jackie didn't give a shit about bowls - you were likely to find our players out partying all week, we'd come out flat, and lose to teams like Air Force. Hell - in season at the Landing or Cheers you were likely find Sleepy at last call on Thursday night if a home game.

What has changed is that players have more freedom to change their surroundings if they want to and control more aspects of their lives. That gives them more power - and those who are used to dictating the terms don't like that.

Signed - Gen Xer - or as we were originally known "generation slack" whose generation was ruined by Ac/Dc, Kiss, video games, television, The Catcher in the Rye, skateboards, rap music, and Ferris Bueller.
